GTA 6 Claims Another Victim as LotF 2 Slips to 2027

CI Games has pushed Lords of the Fallen 2 out of fall 2026 and into early 2027, dodging a release calendar that GTA 6 has turned into a minefield.

"This updated release window also strategically positions Lords of the Fallen 2 outside of a highly competitive holiday period, ensuring the game receives the dedicated attention it deserves." That's CI Games CEO Marek Tyminski on X, announcing that Lords of the Fallen 2 is slipping from its planned fall 2026 launch to Q1 2027. The word "strategically" is doing a lot of heavy lifting in that sentence, but nobody's going to blame him. When Grand Theft Auto 6 is sitting on November 19 like a boulder in the middle of the highway, strategic retreat is just common sense.

Tyminski framed the delay as a quality call first, saying the team "has identified meaningful opportunities to further refine and strengthen the overall experience" after working with what he called a Gameplay Feedback Team of "seasoned Souls-like veterans." The usual language about integration, iteration, and polish followed. No specifics on what's actually changing, which is the part I find frustrating. "Meaningful opportunities" could mean anything from reworking a boss to fixing netcode. If CI Games wants players to stay excited through a delay, telling them what is getting better would go a lot further than corporate reassurance.

The Fall 2026 Pile-Up

The competitive pressure Tyminski is referencing GTA 6, though that's obviously the main gravitational force. September already has Blood of the Dawnwalker on the 3rd, Marvel's Wolverine on the 15th, and Control Resonant on the 24th. October brings Ace Combat 8 and Final Fantasy Resonance. Even studios that tried to dodge November by sliding into earlier months have found those months filling up fast. Valor Mortis recently moved from September to October, only to land in another crowded window. It's a game of musical chairs where every seat has a AAA release already sitting in it.

Lords of the Fallen 2 had real momentum coming out of Summer Game Fest, where its gameplay trailer generated a strong response and drove Steam wishlists. Walking away from that buzz is a gamble. By Q1 2027, players who were hyped in June might have moved on, especially if they've just spent November and December buried in GTA 6. But releasing a mid-tier Soulslike in the same quarter as the biggest game launch in a decade would have been worse. I think CI Games made the right call here, even if the timing stings.

The original Lords of the Fallen launched in 2023 to a mixed reception, with performance issues overshadowing its ambitious dual-world design. A major 2.0 update in 2025 addressed some of those problems, and the sequel is positioned as a standalone story set 100 years later. CI Games can't afford another rough launch. The first game survived its rocky start partly because the Soulslike audience is patient and forgiving when the core combat is good; a second botched release wouldn't get the same grace period.

Lords of the Fallen 2 isn't the only game retreating into 2027. Fable has already abandoned its 2026 plans, and Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis made the same move earlier this month. Early 2027 is starting to look suspiciously crowded itself, which means some of these games are just trading one pile-up for another. Lords of the Fallen 2 is planned for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC, with no firm date beyond the Q1 2027 window.
