Same Co-op Bugs, Second Fix for Lords of the Fallen

CI Games just shipped a second hotfix for Lords of the Fallen that addresses the exact same co-op bugs it claimed to fix last week. The patch notes are virtually identical.

Read the patch notes for this week's Lords of the Fallen hotfix and last week's side by side, and you might think you're looking at the same document. That's because you basically are. CI Games pushed hotfix 2.5.352 on April 17, labelled as update 1.104 on consoles, and every single fix listed is a repeat of what the studio said it resolved in the previous hotfix just one week earlier.

The fixes cover five co-op issues, all related to the guest player experience: a level reset when backing out of the Chrysalis Respec menu, the host automatically searching for a new session after the guest leaves, both players getting teleported to a previously visited Vestige when the guest rests, the guest being unable to warp to a Vestige in Full Privilege Non-Shared Progression sessions, and the privilege type flipping from Full to Limited when the guest joins. Every one of these appeared in last week's notes. Every one of them apparently wasn't actually fixed.

I've seen studios ship follow-up patches for stubborn bugs before. It happens. But when the fix list is a carbon copy, something went wrong in QA. Either the first hotfix didn't deploy correctly, the underlying cause wasn't identified properly, or the fix was only partial and nobody caught it before pushing the update live. None of those explanations are great.

What This Actually Means for Players

If you've been trying to play Lords of the Fallen in co-op over the past two weeks, you've likely run into at least one of these issues. The level reset bug is particularly nasty; losing your character's progress mid-session because you opened a menu is the sort of thing that makes people put a game down. The Vestige teleport bug and privilege-type swap are less dramatic but still disruptive enough to break a co-op run.

The practical question now is whether this second pass actually sticks. CI Games described this as a small download across all platforms, which suggests it's a targeted fix rather than a broader overhaul. If these same five bullet points show up in next week's notes, the studio has a credibility problem with its co-op playerbase that goes beyond a single bad patch.

What makes this more frustrating is context. Lords of the Fallen launched in 2023 to a mixed reception, and CI Games has spent considerable effort since then improving the game through patches and content updates. A lot of that work has been solid. But co-op has always been one of the game's selling points, and shipping the same broken fix twice undermines the goodwill those larger updates earned. Players who stuck around through the rougher early months deserve better than a hotfix that doesn't hot-fix anything.

CI Games also has a sequel in the pipeline, with a gameplay teaser already out showing off changes to the Umbral Realm. If the studio wants that announcement to land with confidence, cleaning up the current game's co-op experience needs to actually be clean. Repeating patch notes verbatim a week apart doesn't exactly inspire faith that the next release will ship in better shape.

The update is live now on all platforms. If you've been holding off on co-op sessions, it's probably safe to test again, but I'd keep expectations measured until someone confirms these fixes are actually working this time.
