2GB to 100GB, Fallout 4's Xbox Mod Cap Blows Wide Open
Bethesda is lifting Fallout 4's Creations storage cap on Xbox Series X|S from a laughable 2GB to a scalable 100GB. The update lands May 27.
A 2GB mod cap in 2026 was always absurd. Bethesda is finally doing something about it, announcing on X that Fallout 4's Creations storage on Xbox Series X and S will jump from 2GB to a scalable 100GB on May 27. That's a 50x increase, and it completely changes what's possible for console modding on Bethesda's platform.
The bump isn't exclusive to current-gen Xbox, though the gap is enormous. According to Bethesda's statement, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, and Xbox One will all see their Creations storage increased from 1GB or 2GB to approximately 15GB. Useful, sure, but 15GB versus 100GB tells you exactly where Bethesda's priorities are. PS5 owners in particular might have questions about why they're getting a fraction of what Series X|S players are, and Bethesda hasn't offered any explanation.
I've been saying for years that the old storage limits made Creations on console feel like a demo version of what PC players had access to. You'd fill 2GB with a couple of texture overhauls and a weapon pack, then spend your time agonizing over what to cut. At 100GB, Xbox Series X|S players can finally stack larger quest mods, overhauls, and visual packs without constantly juggling space. It opens the door for "larger, more ambitious creations," as Bethesda puts it, and it immediately raises the question of whether something like Fallout: London could eventually land on Xbox consoles. The mod's developer expressed interest back in 2024 but said they'd need Bethesda's help to make a standalone console version. A 100GB cap at least removes one of the biggest technical barriers.
Before the update hits, Bethesda is warning players to save their existing Creations load order, since the patch will reset it by default. There's a detailed FAQ on how to do this on the official Fallout website if you're already running mods. You can also browse what's available on the Creations hub.
