First CFB Game on PC in 20+ Years Is Live Now

College Football 27 launched on PC and consoles on July 2, making it the first college football game available on the platform in over twenty years. PC players can finally tweak graphics settings and chase 120 FPS on the gridiron.

PC gamers haven't been able to play a licensed college football game since EA's NCAA Football series stopped shipping on the platform in the early 2000s. That drought ended on July 2, when College Football 27 went live on PC alongside consoles, but the bigger story might be what EA chose to bring with it: a Season 1 Field Pass, a CUT mode, and the full suite of live-service infrastructure that defined last year's console-only predecessor.

College Football 27 is EA Sports' follow-up to last year's College Football 25, which returned the college football franchise after a decade-long hiatus caused by legal disputes over player likeness rights. That game launched exclusively on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. This year's entry adds PC to the mix for the first time, and according to early coverage from outlets including Destructoid, it runs well enough that players with mid-range hardware can hit stable frame rates at medium settings. One setup running an AMD Ryzen 7 5700X, 32 GB of RAM, and an RX 9060XT reportedly handled the game comfortably at recommended specs, with a 60 FPS cap suggested for stability and an option to push to 120 FPS if your rig can handle it.

I'm glad to see the PC port arrive, but I do want to flag what shipped alongside it. The Season 1 Field Pass has 60 levels of rewards, and while the free track hands out coins, trophies, packs, and upgradeable players, there's already speculation about a premium pass tier. Level 50 includes a "S2 Head Start Token," which suggests EA is planning to keep this seasonal treadmill running. If you've played Madden Ultimate Team, you know exactly what this structure looks like. College football fans on PC waited over two decades for this, and the first thing greeting them is a live-service grind loop. I'm not going to pretend that surprises me, but it does sting a little.

What PC Players Get

On the gameplay side, the roster is packed with real players and real ratings this time around. Three athletes share the top speed rating of 99: wide receivers Nyck Harbor and Gatlin Bair, plus cornerback Rodrick Pleasant. The quarterback position skews slower, as you'd expect, with ULM's Austin Carlisle topping the chart at 93 speed but carrying only a 70 overall rating. Trinidad Chambliss looks like the best dual-threat QB in the game with 90 speed, 92 agility, and a 93 overall.

The PC version includes a full graphics settings menu with options for raytraced lighting, advanced hair, 3D grass, crowd quality, and more. Early recommendations lean toward turning off raytracing, bloom, lens flares, and 3D grass to maintain performance, keeping most other settings at medium. Cutscene visuals can be dropped to low without affecting gameplay. It's a standard set of PC options, nothing extraordinary, but their existence at all is the point. Console players had no choice but to accept whatever performance profile EA shipped. PC players can at least tune things.

College Football 27 is available now on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. Whether the PC port holds up under heavier online loads in the coming weeks will say more about this launch than any day-one frame rate test, and I'll be watching the early patch cadence closely to see if EA treats this platform as a priority or an afterthought.
