PS3 emulation has come a long way, and one of the leading projects in this space is RPCS3. The team behind RPCS3 has been tirelessly working to improve the emulation experience, and their efforts are truly paying off.

One of the most exciting developments is the recent updates that have made RPCS3 even more compatible with the Steam Deck. The addition of full gamepad support to the main interface has been a game-changer. Now, users can navigate the menu, select games, and adjust settings using their controller seamlessly.

According to the merge request that introduced this feature, here are the controller inputs and their functions:

  • D-pad -> Arrow keys
  • Cross -> Enter
  • Circle -> ESC
  • Square -> Back
  • Triangle -> Tab
  • Left stick -> Mouse movement
  • Right stick Left/Right -> Horizontal mouse wheel
  • Right stick Up/Down -> Vertical mouse wheel
  • L1 -> Left click
  • R1 -> Right click
  • L2 -> Boost Mode = faster mouse movement

Furthermore, a recent update addressed an issue with the AppImage build for RPCS3, ensuring that it now runs smoothly in the Steam Deck OLED Game Mode. This fix has made using the emulator on the Steam Deck even more enjoyable.

For those interested in trying out RPCS3, the emulator can be downloaded from the Discover Store or through platforms like EmuDeck and RetroDECK.
