Europa Universalis V Hotfix 1.2.1 Patch Notes (8th May 2026)
EU5's first hotfix after the 1.2 Encinades update targets two nasty issues: a multiplayer lobby blocker and a performance hit that was tanking framerates mid-session.

Two bugs were clearly bad enough that Paradox couldn't wait for a larger patch. Hotfix 1.2.1 is out today, and both fixes should have an immediate impact on how the game plays.
The multiplayer lobby issue was a straightforward blocker: if one player owned the Sacred Sites DLC and the other didn't, neither could host or join. Given that Paradox's stated policy is for the host's DLC to carry over to all players in a session, this was essentially breaking a core promise of how the game is supposed to work. The FPS drop fix is the other headliner, addressing a significant performance hit when opening location panels, particularly for locations you don't own. Paradox has flagged that other panel-related performance issues are still under investigation, so this isn't the last word on that front. There's also a Byzantine-specific fix here: Legionary and Cataphract unit access could both vanish simultaneously depending on your tag and Societal Value direction, which is the sort of edge case that absolutely ruins a campaign when it hits you.
Small patch, but the multiplayer fix alone makes it a necessary one. Here's the full breakdown.

✓ Fix◆ TweakHello! Today we have released hotfix 1.2.1 that seeks to address two primary issues:
The first being a bug preventing players from joining multiplayer lobbies if they had mismatching DLC. Our DLC policy has always been if the host owns DLC, everyone shares it, and it will continue to be for the far foreseeable future.
The second being a huge performance drop when opening certain location panels. We're aware of a handful of other performance bugs related to in game panels and currently investigating for a future fix.
