Microsoft has confirmed that it is banning players of Baldur's Gate 3 who upload clips containing explicit scenes. This decision comes after reports surfaced last week about Xbox players being banned for sharing footage of the game's sex scenes.
Larian Studios, the developer behind Baldur's Gate 3, initially addressed the issue, stating their work with Microsoft to resolve these bans, which they described as "annoying and uncool." Michael Douse, Larian’s director of publishing, expressed his concerns on Xbox's official forum.
However, Xbox's support account has now clarified the situation, confirming that these bans were not made in error. The policy even extends to players whose consoles automatically uploaded explicit footage, though reversals are possible in such cases.
To provide clarity on Baldur's Gate 3 mature content enforcement actions, Xbox account suspensions are not automatic. Each clip is reviewed by a moderator and, if found in violation of our safety and content policies, actioned accordingly.

Xbox's statement emphasized the non-automatic nature of these suspensions: "Each clip is reviewed by a moderator and, if found in violation of our safety and content policies, actioned accordingly." They also mentioned the possibility of reversing suspensions if they were made in error, especially for first-time offenses, and advised on how to avoid future issues, such as disabling auto-upload for sensitive content.
This strict enforcement has not been well-received by all players. Some Xbox users have pointed out the irony of being penalized for content from a game that is allowed on the console. Others suggest a more nuanced approach, where users who block M-rated games in their family settings should not see clips from such games, rather than penalizing the players who upload them.
