A senior figure at Larian Studios, the creators behind the acclaimed Baldur’s Gate 3, has publicly denounced the negative and harmful behavior directed at the game's development team. This comes in light of their ongoing efforts to integrate official mod support across all game versions.
Michael Douse, the Director of Publishing at Larian, took to social media platform X to address the issue, alongside celebrating a significant milestone of exceeding 10 million players for Baldur’s Gate 3.
To finish, again, we can only be close if we can work close. If we cannot do that, and we have to draw distance, it’ll really suck for everyone, especially us & definitely you. Please help us to work for the greater good of the millions of people who are involved & chill.

The announcement of Larian's commitment to establishing cross-platform mod support was made recently, acknowledging the community's concerns regarding the impact of game updates on mods like the Script Extender. Douse expressed understanding for the frustration felt by players when updates disrupt the functionality of unofficial mods, highlighting this as a key reason for developing an official modding solution.
However, the period following this announcement saw an uptick in abusive behavior towards the development team, particularly those handling community engagement. Douse returned to X to critique this behavior, stressing that such toxicity only detracts from productive discussions about the game's future, including mod support.
Douse emphasized the importance of patience and constructive engagement from the community, noting the challenges in maintaining clear communication as the player base expands rapidly. He praised the majority of the Baldur’s Gate 3 community for their positive support but lamented the inevitable presence of a few disruptive individuals.
The executive also reminded players that Baldur’s Gate 3 currently lacks mod support, urging them to refrain from directing frustration at mod authors, support teams, or developers. Instead, he advocated for focusing on the future and the enhancements it will bring to the game.
