CD Projekt Red has significantly bolstered the development team for the highly anticipated sequel to Cyberpunk 2077. The project, known internally as Project Orion, is taking shape under the guidance of CD Projekt North America, with key studios in Boston and Vancouver spearheading the effort.

The sequel's development team now includes luminaries such as Dan Hernberg, taking on the role of executive producer, with a rich background at Amazon Games and Blizzard, where he contributed to titles like New World, Apex Legends, and Diablo 3. Ryan Barnard, with his experience as game director at Massive Entertainment and Ubisoft, joins as design director, bringing a wealth of knowledge from his time with Hitman studio IO Interactive.

Alan Villani, previously VP of technology for Warner Bros. on projects including the Mortal Kombat series, steps in as engineering director. The narrative depth of Project Orion is set to deepen with Anna Megill as lead writer, known for her work on Control and Dishonored: Death of The Outsider, and Alexander Freed, bringing over 15 years of game writing experience from his tenure at BioWare, notably on Star Wars: The Old Republic.

This infusion of talent underscores CD Projekt's commitment to surpassing the original game's achievements. Project Orion remains in the "conceptual design" phase, with the company planning to expand the team to around 80 members by year's end. Additionally, CD Projekt is exploring the inclusion of multiplayer elements in the sequel, promising an even more immersive experience.

This strategic expansion of the development team signals a promising future for the Cyberpunk franchise, as CD Projekt leverages the expertise of industry veterans to create a sequel that aims to redefine the boundaries of storytelling and gameplay in the RPG genre.
