If you are a fan of Baldur's Gate 3, you might be interested to know that the game almost featured some iconic areas that never made the final cut. According to a recent interview with Larian Studios head Swen Vincke, several beloved locations had to be scrapped during development, including the Gith Astral Plane, Candlekeep, and Avernus.

There are Spoilers for Baldur's Gate 3 below.

Vincke explained to IGN that the team initially planned for smaller maps to allow for a wider variety of locations. However, they soon realized that this approach would impact the sense of exploration in the game, leading them to make the tough decision to remove these areas from the final product.

One of the most anticipated storylines that never came to fruition was the quest involving Karlach's return to Avernus to rid herself of an infernal engine. Fans have been eager for an expansion to explore the fiery underworld, but it seems that this idea was ultimately abandoned.

Additionally, Candlekeep, the fortified library where the Baldur's Gate series began, was meant to play a significant role in the game. It serves as the starting point for the protagonist's journey into the wilds, but plans for its inclusion were scrapped along with other content.

Furthermore, it was revealed that Wyll, a companion character in the game, was originally supposed to have a more extensive storyline that included a significant moment at a war college. Unfortunately, this storyline was also cut from the final version of the game.

Overall, the development process of Baldur's Gate 3 involved many ideas being discarded to ensure the best possible experience for players. While fans may never get to explore the additional areas or storylines that were planned, it's fascinating to learn about the creative decisions that shaped the final game.
