Yunyun Syndrome Turned 'I Don't Need It' Into a Uterus Joke
The Japanese line いらない means "I don't need it." The English localization of Yunyun Syndrome turned it into "i'd cut my uterus out if i cld." Over 60 lines like this have now been corrected.
The Japanese phrase いらない means "I don't need it." Three words. Simple, clear, no ambiguity. In the English localization of Yunyun Syndrome!? Rhythm Psychosis, that line became "i'd cut my uterus out if i cld." I cannot fathom the chain of decisions that gets you from point A to point B on that one.
The rhythm adventure game launched on Steam last week to "Very Positive" reviews, but English-speaking players immediately flagged that the localization wasn't just rough; it was rewriting the game. Developer Fuyuki Hayashi acknowledged the problems in a post on Steam, noting that parts of the English version reflected old drafts of the Japanese text and that revisions were needed. A follow-up patch corrected over 60 lines. The uterus line became "don't want em anyway." Another line, 関係ないね ("It doesn't matter"), had been translated as "necessary evil DEEZ NUTS." 救済してくれ ("Please save me") was rendered as "i crave that sweet release of death."
This isn't a case of creative liberties or loose localization choices. These are lines where the English text has zero relationship to the Japanese source. Yunyun Syndrome is written in the "Denpa" style, which leans into delusional, disconnected-from-reality vibes, and the original Japanese nails that tone. The English version apparently took "disconnected from reality" as a mission statement for the translation itself. I've seen bad localizations before, but turning a three-syllable refusal into an unprompted line about organ removal is a new benchmark. Hayashi deserves credit for responding fast and being transparent about what went wrong, but the fact that this shipped at all suggests the English text wasn't reviewed by anyone who could read both languages side by side. Some of the fixes still leave larger localization issues unresolved, according to Hayashi's own statement.
