Stupid Never Dies Locks In October Launch with Sega

GPTRACK50's debut action RPG has a date, a price, and a co-publishing deal with Sega. It's landing right in the middle of October's brutal release window.

A zombie love story from ex-Capcom developers just got a lot more real. GPTRACK50 announced today that its debut title, Stupid Never Dies, will launch on October 21 for PlayStation 5 and PC via Steam, priced at $49.99 for the Standard Edition. Alongside the date, the studio revealed a co-publishing deal with Sega, which will handle worldwide distribution.

That Sega partnership is the detail I keep coming back to. GPTRACK50 is a small independent studio, founded by Hiroyuki Kobayashi, whose credits at Capcom include Dragon's Dogma and Resident Evil 6. Getting Sega's distribution muscle behind your first game is a serious vote of confidence, and Kobayashi's statement in the press release frames it as the start of something longer-term:

"We are delighted and deeply grateful to SEGA for their publishing partnership and support as we bring the first of many games from GPTRACK50 to players. Stupid Never Dies is an ambitious action game that introduces a number of original gameplay systems, and working with a publisher as experienced as SEGA has been invaluable. Together, our team remains committed to delivering a game that we believe players around the world will enjoy."

"The first of many" is doing a lot of work in that quote. It suggests GPTRACK50 and Sega have a broader relationship in place, not just an one-off deal. For a brand-new studio trying to break through in a month that's already stacked, having the Persona and Like a Dragon publisher backing your launch could be the difference between getting noticed and getting buried.

October's crowded calendar

And buried is a real risk. October 21 puts Stupid Never Dies on the same day as Square Enix's Final Fantasy Resonance, with Castlevania: Belmont's Curse arriving on October 15 and Phantom Blade Zero following on October 29. All of this is happening because GTA 6 is parked on November 19, forcing every other publisher to front-load their releases into September and October. Stupid Never Dies was previously slated for a vague "late 2026" window; locking in October 21 means GPTRACK50 chose to compete head-on rather than slip into early 2027.

I respect the decision, even if it's risky. The game occupies a specific niche that Final Fantasy Resonance doesn't: fast, stylish hack-and-slash action with a pop-punk aesthetic and a premise that sounds like it was pitched at 2 a.m. after too much caffeine. You play as Davy, a timid zombie at the bottom of monster society, trying to revive a frozen human girl named Julia by stealing abilities from demons, vampires, werewolves, and ghosts. The game was first revealed at The Game Awards last year, and the new trailer introduces Phoenix Zaza Hotfeathers, a flamboyant mystery character with fiery wings who looks like he wandered in from a completely different game. I'm into it.

Players who want extras can pick up the Glorious Idiot Edition for $59.99, which bundles in the game's first DLC, TickTock Teddies: Nonsense Overload Pack. The DLC adds five cosmetic modifiers, including a big-head mode and remixed combat music tracks. It's visual and audio flair rather than gameplay content, so the base game should be the complete experience at that $49.99 price point. Pricing a new IP from an unproven studio at $10 under the standard $60 is a smart move, and I wish more publishers thought that way.

Before the game itself arrives, GPTRACK50 is releasing the opening and ending theme songs on Spotify, Apple Music, Amazon Music, and other streaming platforms on August 4. The opening track, "Stupid Never Dies," is performed by Davy and Julia's voice actors, while the ending theme, "Restless, Reckless, Never Die, Fearless," is a solo Davy track. Dropping your soundtrack a full two and a half months before launch is an unusual marketing play, but for a game leaning this hard into its pop-punk identity, it makes sense.

Stupid Never Dies will support English voice-overs with subtitles in 13 languages at launch. No Xbox version has been announced. October 21 is going to be a brutal day for wallets, but a $49.99 action RPG with Sega's backing and Capcom veterans at the helm has earned a spot on the radar.
