Xbox Outage Locks Players Out of Downloaded Games

A major Xbox outage is preventing players from signing in, viewing their game libraries, and launching downloaded titles they already own.

If you've been staring at an error screen on your Xbox today, you're not alone. A major outage has been locking players out of their accounts, game libraries, and even downloaded titles for at least eight hours, with no fix deployed at the time of writing.

The Xbox Status page is listing "major outage" across four service categories: Account & Profile, Store & Subscriptions, Games & Gaming, and Apps & Mobile. This means you might not be able to sign in, the Store could be missing titles, and games you've already downloaded may refuse to launch. The Xbox Support account posted on X:

We are aware that some users are encountering errors when attempting to sign in, see your game library, or launch games. Our engineers are actively working to mitigate the issue.

All four status reports say the issue has been identified, with a resolution listed as "pending." No cause has been given.

This comes less than a week after PlayStation Network went down for several hours, an outage that coincided with the Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls open beta going live. Two platform-wide outages in the span of a few days is not a great look for an industry that's been pushing hard toward an all-digital future. When your internet goes out, losing access to multiplayer is expected. Losing access to single-player games you've already downloaded and paid for is a different problem entirely, and it's one that keeps fuelling the physical media argument every time it happens. I've written about Sony's disc plans and Sega's physical media commitments over the past week, and outages like this are exactly why those conversations aren't going away.

Xbox has not provided an estimated time for a fix. Players can monitor the Xbox Status page for updates.
