Two Expansions Locked In Before UFC 6 Even Ships
EA Sports UFC 6 isn't out until June, but the $100 Ultimate Edition already bundles two paid expansions stretching into summer 2027. That's a lot of confidence in a game nobody's played yet.
"Your access to two fully-loaded expansions, which include a new mode and more. Coming winter 2026 and summer 2027, respectively." That's straight from EA's own store page for the UFC 6 Ultimate Edition, a $99.99 package that asks you to pay for content that won't arrive until potentially a year after launch. The game itself doesn't release until June 19.
EA officially announced UFC 6 today for PS5 and Xbox Series X/S, following an earlier leak from Dealabs' billbil-kun that nailed the date and platforms. The standard edition runs $69.99 / £69.99. Pre-ordering either version gets you an Iconic Moments Bundle with Korean Zombie, Miesha Tate, and Leon Edwards fighter skins. A PC version is reportedly in development, though EA hasn't confirmed whether it'll launch alongside the console release or arrive later.
The Ultimate Edition is where things get interesting, and not entirely in a good way. For $30 more, you get seven days of early access starting June 12, a Fighter Pass containing eight UFC legends (two at launch, six post-release), the aforementioned Expansion Pass, a VIP Pass with five fighter skins, six cosmetic items, three emojis, and "ongoing progress boosts and rewards across the game." There's also a Rivalry Bundle with two more skins and 500 UFC points. It's a dense package, but the structure tells you everything about where EA's head is at.
Progress Boosts and Promises
I want to zoom in on two things. First, "ongoing progress boosts" is a phrase that should make anyone paying attention uncomfortable. We don't know what progression system UFC 6 uses yet, but selling boosts to skip it before the game even launches raises an obvious question: is the grind being designed around the boost, or is the boost a bonus on top of fair pacing? History suggests the former. Second, selling an expansion pass for content arriving in summer 2027 means EA is asking for money more than a year in advance for a mode and features that don't exist yet, attached to a game that hasn't been played by a single consumer.
This isn't new for EA, or for the industry broadly. But the UFC series has traditionally had years between entries rather than annual cycles. UFC 5 launched in October 2023, meaning there's been a roughly two-and-a-half-year gap. That longer development window should, in theory, mean the base game ships complete. Locking two expansions and a fighter pass into a premium edition before anyone's touched the product suggests the post-launch revenue pipeline was baked into the plan from the start, not built in response to player demand.
The game itself promises "evolved striking and motion systems" and new modes with "immersive storytelling," according to EA's description. UFC 5 introduced a damage system where injuries like eye damage could impair fighter abilities, so there's a foundation to build on. Previous entries have featured guest fighters like Bruce Lee, Mike Tyson, and Muhammad Ali, though EA hasn't confirmed any crossover names for UFC 6 yet.
Insider Gaming's Mike Straw covered the announcement details in a breakdown worth watching if you want the full rundown on editions. As for whether the game itself justifies the price of entry, let alone the $100 premium tier, we'll need to see actual gameplay before that question has an answer. What I can say now is that a $70 fighting game selling a $30 upgrade for content stretching into 2027 is EA telling you exactly how it plans to monetise this thing, and it's doing so before you've even thrown a punch.
