Not Even 3 Years Old, Star Trek: Resurgence Axed

Star Trek: Resurgence has been yanked from digital storefronts after its distribution license expired, barely giving the game time to reach all its platforms before disappearing.

A game that only finished rolling out to all its platforms last August is already being erased from digital shelves. Star Trek: Resurgence, the Telltale-style narrative adventure from Dramatic Labs, has been pulled from sale on Steam and Xbox after publisher Bruner House confirmed its distribution license has expired. According to an announcement posted to Steam shortly before the removal, existing owners can still access the game through their libraries.

The statement from Bruner House was brief: "Our license to distribute Star Trek: Resurgence has come to an end, so the game will no longer be offered for sale. Existing customers can continue to access the game via their Steam library. Thanks to everyone who was able to enjoy the game! Live long and prosper!" No advance warning, no countdown sale, no grace period. Just gone.

What makes this sting is the timeline. Resurgence originally launched on the Epic Games Store on May 23, 2023. It didn't arrive on Steam until May 2024, hit PlayStation later that year, and only reached Nintendo Switch in August 2025. That means the Switch version existed for roughly eight months before the license expired. The game barely had time to find its audience on each platform before the rug got pulled. At the time of publication, Resurgence's Steam page already shows it as unavailable, while the PlayStation Store listing still appeared active, though that could change at any moment.

Resurgence was made by a team of former Telltale developers and sat at a respectable 71 on Metacritic. It wasn't a blockbuster, but it was a solid licensed game in a franchise that hasn't had many good ones. I keep coming back to the fact that Bruner House chose to bring this game to new platforms knowing the license window was this tight. Launching on Switch less than a year before your distribution rights expire, with no public communication about the deadline, feels like selling someone a ticket to a show that's about to close. Physical copies through retailers like Amazon remain an option for anyone still interested, and the game will continue to work offline for anyone who already owns it.
