STALKER 2 Cracks Open X-18's Sealed Lower Labs
The lower levels of X-18 are finally accessible. STALKER 2's free Sealed Truth update adds a new story questline and bug fixes ahead of the Cost of Hope expansion.

Patch 1.010 for S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2: Heart of Chornobyl is live now across all platforms, and it does something players have been waiting for since launch: it unseals the lower levels of Lab X-18. Anyone who played through the base game's "Answers Come at a Price" quest knows the frustration. You fought through bandits, explored the upper section, got teased by a cryptic voice over the intercom, and then hit a wall. The lab had more to give, and the game just wouldn't let you see it.
Now it does. The free Sealed Truth update introduces a new questline centered on Diod, a technician from Slag Heap who has apparently found a way into X-18's sealed lower floors. According to GSC Game World's official description, Diod isn't after loot. He needs something specific, and Skif is the only person who can get him inside. The setup is classic Zone fare: a deal that sounds straightforward, a payout that sounds generous, and the near-certainty that nothing will go as planned. GSC is promising lost knowledge, useful gear, and "something far more significant" hidden in the depths.
I like this approach. Rather than drip-feeding minor cosmetic additions or padding out the map with filler markers, GSC is picking up a dangling story thread and turning it into a proper mission. That mysterious intercom voice from the base game, the one that helped Skif escape Ward soldiers by activating an experimental psi weapon, was one of the more intriguing loose ends in a game full of them. Tying the new content directly to that unresolved mystery gives returning players a real reason to boot the game up again.
Fixes and a DLC Tease
Beyond the new questline, patch 1.010 includes a couple of targeted fixes. GSC has addressed an issue causing overpopulation of strong mutant types in long campaigns, which should smooth out the late-game difficulty curve for players deep into their saves. A bug with the mission "Dark as a Dungeon" that caused it to immediately cancel if you'd already reached the point of no return has also been squashed. New loading screens round out the patch.
PC players running mods should take note: GSC has warned that the update may break existing modifications, recommending players disable mods if they experience stability issues after updating. If problems persist, the studio points to its support page for troubleshooting.
GSC is framing Sealed Truth as a thank-you to the community ahead of the Cost of Hope DLC, which is slated for this summer. That expansion will add two new regions, the Iron Forest and the Chornobyl Nuclear Power Plant, along with what GSC has described as "dozens of hours" of new content. Cost of Hope has been positioned as the middle chapter of a second trilogy of stories, all delivered within the same game rather than as separate releases. A future DLC will wrap up the arc.
Giving away a free story mission to build momentum for a paid expansion is a smart move, and it's the kind of thing I wish more studios did instead of just dropping a trailer and a pre-order page. S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 is available on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam, Epic Games Store, GOG, and the Microsoft Store.
