The Blood of Dawnwalker Gets a 60FPS Console Mode at Launch

Rebel Wolves has confirmed that The Blood of Dawnwalker gets a Performance Mode targeting 60fps on console from day one, delivered through the launch patch on 3 September.

The turn came three days later. On Friday the studio had published its console plans without a 60fps option anywhere: a Quality Mode targeting 30fps and a Balanced Mode targeting 40fps, both at dynamic 4K, across PS5, PS5 Pro and Xbox Series X and S, with the Pro differentiated by enhanced visual quality rather than frame rate. Eurogamer reported the specification alongside the reaction building under the official gameplay video.

That reaction had a point, and commenters made it bluntly. "It's 2026, 60 fps is the bare minimum at this point," read one response Eurogamer quoted. Others asked directly why the more expensive Pro hardware capped at the same frame rates.

Monday's answer came from the game's official account. Performance Mode, the studio explained, was already in the works but still being tested when Friday's specifications were published, so it was not ready to promise it yet. The rest of the statement:

"On Friday, we answered your questions about console performance with what we knew we could confidently deliver at launch.

We heard your feedback. It was clear how much this mattered to many of you, so we focused on finishing the next round of tests. Those results gave us the confidence we needed to confirm Performance Mode for Day 1."

PS5 ProSame frame rates, enhanced visualsPerformance targeting 60fps
Xbox Series X and SQuality 30fps, Balanced 40fpsPerformance targeting 60fps on Series X; Series S unconfirmed

Two caveats travel with that table. Every figure above is a target, not a certified result, and the studio has said nothing about what resolution the new mode runs at, so whether Performance holds dynamic 4K or trades pixels for frames is unknown. And Series S appears nowhere in the confirmation: it was in Friday's no-60fps line-up and is absent from Monday's list, which is recorded here as unknown rather than guessed.

Push Square's report adds a detail suggesting the pivot is still settling: the studio has set last week's console-footage video to private on YouTube, presumably pending a cut that includes the new mode.

On 3 September, The Blood of Dawnwalker launches across PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. Resolution targets for the new mode, and any Series S plan, are the remaining open questions, and neither is answered in the studio's statement.
