Monday, April 14. That's the deadline ShinyHunters has given Rockstar Games to pay an undisclosed ransom, or watch their data go public.

Rockstar confirmed the breach on April 11. According to Cyber Security Guru, ShinyHunters gained access by exploiting a vulnerability in Anodot, an AI analytics platform Rockstar uses to track cloud costs. By compromising Anodot, the group obtained authentication tokens that let them walk directly into Rockstar's Snowflake data warehouse and extract files without triggering any immediate alarms. The message sent to Rockstar reportedly used Cyberpunk 2077's in-game font and visual style, which is a choice.

In a statement, Rockstar said: "We can confirm that a limited amount of non-material company information was accessed in connection with a third-party data breach. This incident has no impact on our organization or our players." ShinyHunters has not specified what exactly it holds, but the data reportedly includes financial records, player spending habits, marketing plans, and contracts with outsourcing companies.

ShinyHunters is not a small operation. The group has previously claimed responsibility for breaches at Microsoft, AT&T, Ticketmaster, and Wattpad, where 270 million user records were obtained. Historically, they use press coverage as, making noise publicly to increase the pressure on targets to pay before a deadline hits. Rockstar's statement reads like a company trying to minimize panic, but with a ransom clock running and a group this experienced on the other side, Monday is going to be a tense day in Take-Two's offices.

This is the second major security incident Rockstar has faced in recent years. The 2022 hack resulted in over 90 GTA 6 development videos leaking online, and the teenager responsible was eventually convicted and placed in a secure hospital by a British court. GTA 6 is currently scheduled for release on November 19, 2026, for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, following two delays from its original Fall 2025 window.
