3% Behind RE4 Remake, Pragmata Is Capcom's New Darling
Capcom's risky new IP launched to a 97% positive English review score on Steam, putting it within striking distance of the publisher's crown jewel.
"Capcom are on an absolute generational run right now. It's refreshing to see a big publisher take a risk on a new single-player IP like Pragmata."
That's from one of over 1,500 English-language Steam reviews posted in Pragmata's first day on sale, and the is hard to argue with. According to its Steam page, 97% of English-language reviewers gave Capcom's new action-adventure a thumbs up, earning it an 'Overwhelmingly Positive' rating within 24 hours of launch. When factoring in all languages, the score sits at 93% positive, enough to slot it onto Capcom's list of best-rated Steam games ever, just three percentage points behind Resident Evil 4 Remake's 96%.
For a brand-new IP from a major publisher, that's a remarkable start. New single-player franchises from AAA studios are rare enough as it is; ones that land this cleanly are almost unheard of. Player reviews consistently highlight the hacking and shooting gameplay, the atmospheric sci-fi setting, and Diana, the child companion who apparently behaves like an actual kid rather than a miniature adult. Multiple reviewers mention her scribbling on your space suit and asking constant questions, which sounds like the kind of detail that either makes or breaks a game. Clearly, for most players, it's making it.
I've been watching Capcom's output over the last few years, and the consistency is getting absurd. RE4 Remake, Monster Hunter Wilds, and now Pragmata landing with this kind of reception means the studio has three of the top-rated games of 2026 so far. That kind of streak from a single publisher is something I can't remember seeing in the PS3/360 era I grew up on, and it's happening while Capcom is simultaneously taking creative swings on new properties instead of just mining nostalgia.
One Day Old, Though
The obvious caveat is that Pragmata is reportedly around 15 hours long, and many of those 1,500 reviewers may not have finished it yet. Steam review scores tend to fluctuate in the first week as more players reach the credits and the initial enthusiasm either holds or cools. A 93% all-language score could drift down a few points, or it could climb as the English-speaking audience, which is currently sitting higher at 97%, continues to dominate the review pool.
Even if it settles a few points lower, the is clear. Capcom bet on a new world, a new cast, and a tone that leans harder into sci-fi than anything in their usual lineup, and the audience showed up for it. In an industry where publishers routinely greenlight sequels and remakes because new IP is considered too risky, Pragmata landing this close to RE4 Remake's score on day one sends a message.
Capcom's broader momentum extends beyond just Pragmata, too. Resident Evil Requiem, which launched on Switch 2 in February, recently had its files datamined by user MasyaSYRKOV on X, who uncovered music tracks that fans believe are tied to a returning Mercenaries mode. The game's director previously teased a minigame update for May, and one of the discovered tracks features prominent clock-ticking sounds, which lines up neatly with the time-attack format Mercenaries is known for. Capcom hasn't confirmed anything yet, but the fanbase is already running with it.
Meanwhile, Pragmata's cultural footprint is already spreading to other games. Wuthering Waves announced that its v3.3 anniversary update, arriving April 30, will include free motorcycle liveries inspired by both Pragmata and Resident Evil as part of a Capcom collaboration event. When your brand-new IP is already being licensed for crossover content before its first week is up, you're doing something right. Capcom's run isn't slowing down, and Pragmata just gave them their strongest argument yet that new IP can compete with their own legends.
