Planet Zoo 2 Unveiled with Aquariums and Aviaries
Frontier's long-awaited sequel adds aquatic and flying species alongside wildlife reserves, launching October 13 on all platforms simultaneously.
Seven years after the original launched exclusively on PC, Frontier Developments has officially revealed Planet Zoo 2 with a release date of October 13, 2026 on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S. The sequel arrives with the two features fans have been requesting since 2019: aquatic species and flying animals.
The announce trailer shows off underwater habitats and aviaries that open up entirely new design possibilities for zoo layouts. According to the press release, as reported by Eurogamer, players will also be able to "take conservation outside of their zoos, restoring natural habitats and releasing animals into Wildlife Reserves." That's a meaningful expansion of what the original game was trying to do, and it signals Frontier is pushing Planet Zoo toward something more than just a prettier enclosure builder.
The simultaneous PC and console launch is a quiet but important detail. The first Planet Zoo didn't arrive on consoles until March 2024, nearly five years after its PC debut. Frontier clearly learned from that gap, and I'm glad to see them not repeating it. The studio followed the same autumn release strategy with Jurassic World Evolution 3 last year, and it worked well enough to justify running it back.
Pre-orders will include a Bonus Content Pack with extra buildings and park customisation options. A Deluxe Edition bumps the price from £39.99 to £54.99 and adds six bonus animal species, available separately as an upgrade. Frontier has said more details will come during the Wholesome Games showcase on June 6 and the PC Gaming Show on June 7.
