Luminous Avenger iX 3 Lands on Switch 2 in 2027

Copen's getting twin energy swords and a fresh set of problems. Inti Creates announced Gunvolt Chronicles: Luminous Avenger iX 3 at BitSummit 2026, confirming a 2027 launch on Switch 2 and PC via Steam.

The sequel picks up with Copen back in his home world, where a mysterious girl warns him about otherworldly invaders called "iX Bearers." Combat-wise, the big addition is the "Divide Edge," a pair of twin energy swords that replace the gun-focused loadouts of previous entries. There's also a new "Code Customizer" system that lets players shape Copen's build to their playstyle, which sounds like Inti Creates is finally giving the series the kind of RPG-adjacent depth that could keep runs feeling distinct beyond just boss order.

This wasn't the only Gunvolt news out of BitSummit, either. Inti Creates also revealed Azure Striker Gunvolt Trilogy Enhanced is coming to Switch 2 in 2026 with a new story mode called "Azure Striker Gunvolt GX," which pairs Gunvolt and Copen as a tag-team duo with a swap mechanic tied to scoring bonuses. That GX content will also hit the existing PlayStation 5 and PC versions as DLC. The Trilogy Enhanced collection originally launched on PS5, Switch, and PC on July 24, 2025.

Inti Creates dumping two Gunvolt announcements at once is a clear signal that they see Switch 2 as a primary home for the franchise, and I think they're right to bet on it. These games have always felt most natural on Nintendo hardware, and the series has a loyal enough following that stacking a remastered trilogy and a brand-new sequel gives both newcomers and longtime fans a reason to care. The Code Customizer system is the detail I'm most curious about; if it adds real build variety rather than just stat nudges, it could be the thing that elevates iX 3 beyond a solid but familiar sequel.

No specific release window beyond 2027 has been given for Luminous Avenger iX 3. The Azure Striker Gunvolt Trilogy Enhanced Switch 2 Edition is targeting sometime this year.
