Stellar Blade, Lies of P, and 5 More RPGs Storm Switch 2
The June Nintendo Direct dropped a wave of third-party RPG ports for Switch 2, from Stellar Blade to Dragon's Dogma 2: Dark Arisen. The message is clear: big studios are treating Nintendo's new console as a serious platform.

"We intentionally set Evie to be shorter and look a bit younger, but we worked to ensure she fights in a very tough manner and exudes a cool, stylish character presence." That's Shift Up CEO Kim Hyung-tae talking about Stellar Blade: Blood Rain's new protagonist in a recent Inven Global interview, but his studio's ambitions for the franchise go well beyond character design. The original Stellar Blade, once a PS5 exclusive, is now confirmed for Switch 2 as part of a massive RPG port wave revealed during yesterday's June Nintendo Direct.
Seven third-party RPGs were announced for Nintendo's new console in a single broadcast. Stellar Blade, Lies of P with its Overture expansion, Dragon's Dogma 2: Dark Arisen, Onimusha: Way of the Sword, Metaphor: ReFantazio, Lords of the Fallen 2, and Devil May Cry 5: Devil Hunter Edition are all heading to Switch 2. Several of them are arriving this year. That's not a trickle of support; that's every major publisher in the action-RPG space deciding the Switch 2 is a platform they need to be on.
Stellar Blade landing on Switch 2 is particularly telling. Sony published the PS5 version as a timed console exclusive back in 2024, where it earned a Metascore of 81. It came to PC last year, and now Shift Up is self-publishing the Switch 2 port. The studio has been vocal about wanting to bring the franchise everywhere, and the sequel, Blood Rain, will also be self-published. I think this is exactly the right move for a mid-sized studio trying to build a brand beyond a single platform deal.
Release dates are stacked
Some of these ports already have firm launch windows, and the calendar is getting crowded. Dragon's Dogma 2: Dark Arisen, an expanded version of Capcom's 2024 open-world RPG, arrives October 9. Onimusha: Way of the Sword launches September 25 alongside its PS5, Xbox, and PC versions, making it a simultaneous release rather than a delayed port. Devil May Cry 5: Devil Hunter Edition hits even sooner, on June 23, running at 60fps. Metaphor: ReFantazio lands November 12, which puts it literally one week before Grand Theft Auto 6. Good luck with that timing, Atlus.
Stellar Blade and Lies of P both have 2026 windows but no exact dates yet. The Lies of P port will include the Overture expansion that launched last year, so Switch 2 owners are getting the complete package. Joy-Con 2 motion controls are confirmed for Stellar Blade's non-combat activities, according to the Direct's PR materials.
What stands out to me about this lineup is how many of these are enhanced or expanded editions rather than straight ports. Dragon's Dogma 2 gets the Dark Arisen subtitle and additional content. Lies of P bundles its DLC. Devil May Cry 5 arrives as a "Devil Hunter Edition" with performance modes. Studios aren't just dumping old builds onto new hardware; they're treating these as definitive versions, which is how you convince someone who already owns the PS5 copy to double-dip.
After a first year where the Switch 2's third-party library felt thin compared to the hype around its hardware, this Direct finally delivered the flood of support people were waiting for. Capcom alone is bringing multiple titles. Shift Up is breaking away from Sony exclusivity to be here. Atlus is shipping one of its most acclaimed RPGs in years. The Switch 2 dev kits clearly went out, and studios clearly liked what they saw. For a console that still has something to prove in the core gaming space, seven RPG announcements in a single Direct is a strong answer.
