A promotional image uploaded to the Xbox Store has seemingly revealed that Ghost Recon Wildlands is getting a 4K, 60FPS upgrade alongside a new mission, nine years after the game first launched.

The image, which was first spotted on the r/GhostReconWildlands subreddit and has since spread across social media, advertises what it calls a "major update" for the tactical open-world shooter. It highlights 4K resolution, 60 frames-per-second support on current-gen consoles, and a new mission called Last Rites. Ubisoft has not publicly acknowledged any of this. The leak appeared on the listing for the Ghost Recon: Wildlands Definitive Edition, which bundles the base game with its Season Pass, Year 2 Pass, Narco Road and Fallen Ghosts expansions, and various cosmetic packs.

Separately, official store pages on PlayStation, Xbox, and PC were updated as of July 6 with the Definitive Edition priced at $99.99, which includes two new cosmetic packs called Nightfall Protocol and Cold Eye scheduled for August. Those packs contain characters, weapons, and accessories, but they are not the Last Rites story mission shown in the leaked promotional material. The current PlayStation Store listing still identifies the Definitive Edition as a PS4 version playable on PS5 through backward compatibility, so a native current-gen release hasn't been confirmed there either.

Wildlands originally launched on March 7, 2017 for PS4, Xbox One, and PC. It dropped players into a fictional open-world Bolivia to dismantle a drug cartel, and it was a sharp departure from the series' more linear roots. The game reviewed decently rather than spectacularly at launch, but strong post-launch support and a loyal co-op community kept it alive. Its 2019 sequel, Ghost Recon Breakpoint, leaned into a sci-fi direction that never clicked with the fanbase the same way, and Wildlands has quietly outlasted it in player engagement.

If the leaked upgrade is real, and the specificity of that promotional image makes it hard to dismiss, this would be a substantial improvement for a game still stuck at 30FPS even on PS5 and Xbox Series X. As Insider Gaming's Tom Henderson noted, Wildlands isn't the only older Ubisoft title in line for this treatment; Watch Dogs Legion is reportedly getting a similar upgrade later this year. I think Ubisoft leaning on its back catalogue like this says a lot about the state of its new release pipeline, but for Wildlands specifically, a 4K/60FPS patch with a new mission is exactly what the game's still-active community has been asking for. According to the store listings, the new cosmetic packs arrive in August, which lines up with when the leaked image suggests the broader update will land.
