Aliens: Fireteam Elite 2 Drops This Summer With 4-Player Squ
Cold Iron Studios bumps the squad from three to four, adds cross-play at launch, and throws in a Specialist class that lets you mix abilities from every kit.
Three to four doesn't sound like a big number on paper, but anyone who played the original Aliens: Fireteam Elite knows how often a third player going down meant a wipe. Cold Iron Studios and publisher Daybreak Game Company revealed Aliens: Fireteam Elite 2 today, confirming a summer 2026 launch on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S. The sequel is already up for wishlisting on Steam.
The headline change is that extra squad slot. Four-player co-op replaces the original's three-player setup, and according to IGN's coverage, the Xenomorphs have been scaled up to match: new types, smarter AI, and enemies that adapt to your tactics. Cold Iron is also introducing a Specialist class that lets you mix and match major and minor abilities from every existing class, which sounds like exactly the kind of buildcrafting flexibility the first game was missing. Full cross-play support ships at launch too, and I'm glad to see it treated as a baseline feature rather than something patched in six months later.
The game will also launch with dedicated Horde mode maps, which is a smart call. Horde was the mode that kept the first game alive well past its campaign, and giving it proper maps from day one instead of repurposed story levels shows Cold Iron learned something from the original's post-launch. The first Aliens: Fireteam Elite pulled a leak back in July 2024 that all but confirmed this sequel, and Cold Iron officially moved away from new content for the original in October 2023, so the studio has had real development time here. I'm cautiously more than interested; the 2021 game had solid bones but felt thin, and a four-player structure with deeper class options could be the difference between a decent co-op shooter and one that actually sticks around.
