27 Vintage Warhammer Games Flood Steam Today
Games Workshop and publisher SNEG have dropped 27 classic Warhammer games onto Steam under a new Warhammer Classics label, with seven titles hitting the platform for the first time.
Twenty-seven Warhammer games spanning three decades just landed on Steam in a single day. Games Workshop has partnered with retro re-release publisher SNEG to launch Warhammer Classics, a new preservation-focused label that bundles everything from 1995's Shadow of the Horned Rat to Blood Bowl 2: Legendary Edition under one banner. All 27 titles are discounted for launch week, with curated bundles available until April 20.

Seven of these are making their Steam debut: Shadow of the Horned Rat, Dark Omen, Final Liberation: Warhammer Epic 40,000, Warhammer 40,000: Chaos Gate, Rites of War, Fire Warrior, and Mark of Chaos - Gold Edition. Another 12 are returning to the store after being delisted, while the remaining eight are existing titles like the Dawn of War Anniversary Editions now folded under the Classics label. According to a press release, every debut and returning title has been updated for compatibility with modern hardware while keeping the original gameplay intact.
I love seeing this kind of thing. Warhammer's PC catalogue is enormous and wildly uneven, but there are gems buried in the back half of it. Chaos Gate was a fantastic XCOM-style tactics game years before its 2022 sequel Daemonhunters, and Dark Omen was a sales disaster in the late '90s that deserved far better. Giving these a second shot on the biggest PC storefront is a straightforward win, even if several were already available on GOG. SNEG director Oleg Klapovskiy framed the initiative as preservation in the press release: "With so many titles lost to time and outdated hardware, Warhammer Classics was created to safeguard this legacy for future generations." Whether Steam is the ideal platform for long-term preservation is a separate debate entirely, but as a way to get these in front of new players right now, it works.
Games Workshop also noted that some content in these older titles "may not accurately reflect current depictions, lore, or presentation within the current Warhammer universes and settings," so expect a few rough edges and outdated lore alongside the outdated graphics. The full collection includes Space Hulk, Space Hulk: Ascension, Warhammer 40,000: Armageddon, Sanctus Reach, three Talisman titles, Man O' War: Corsair, Warhammer Quest 2, Legacy of Dorn, Warhammer Underworlds, both Chainsaw Warrior games, Dark Future: Blood Red States, Space Hulk: Tactics, Battlefleet Gothic: Armada, and both Blood Bowl entries.
