RuneScape Graphical Rendering, Boss Rates & More! Notes (26th May 2026)

RuneScape's latest update lays the groundwork for the Player Avatar refresh with rendering improvements, plus long-awaited boss drop rate clarity.

Today's Graphical Rendering, Boss Rates & More! update is less about sweeping content and more about setting the table. The Player Avatar Refresh is still landing on June 8, but the engine work underpinning it goes live today: better material rendering on armour, reduced reflective edging on characters and environments, and cleaner shadow behaviour across the board. If you noticed the improvements during the Avatar beta, this is that same work hitting the live game.

Jagex has also published drop rates for the Flesh-Hatcher, Havenhythe bosses and their pets, which is the kind of transparency the game has historically been slow to offer. Silverquill's pet sits at 1/1000 with a threshold at 200 kills, Ivar's at 1/1250 with a threshold at 250, knowing those numbers actually changes how you approach grinding them, so I'm glad they're out in the open.

Dungeoneering Remastered gets a handful of quality-of-life fixes too, including two ammo bind slots and doubled ectoplasm output per ritual. Solo XP balancing is still being worked on, with further changes planned for the June 1 update. Here's everything that changed.

Community Topics

  • This month has been a roller coaster with the Avatar beta, the release of Dungeoneering Remastered and the Speedrunning Hiscores we had initially planned for this week to be the release of the Player Avatar but as we explained last week we shuffled around a few things to best set it up for success. Today will be the launch of some underlying engine updates to help prepare for the launch of the Avatar on the 8th of June. You will have seen things like improved material appearance in the beta and they should be making their way live today!
  • We’re continuing to review the XP differences players experience whilst soloing in Dungeoneering. We understand that the recent shift in XP weighting towards bonus rooms has had the greatest impact on solo players.
    • Currently, the XP gap between casual, average, and highly skilled players is significant. As a result, improving solo rates enough to feel rewarding for casual players can quickly create balance issues at higher skill levels. Because of this, the team is taking some additional time to ensure any adjustments are implemented correctly.
    • Further balancing changes for solo XP are planned for next week’s update on 1st June, alongside several additional tweaks and quality-of-life improvements.

Graphical Rendering Improvements

Today we launch some Graphical Rendering Improvements that have long been requested by the players!

We last discussed this update back in April, where we wanted to address the smoothness of our environments and player avatar, along with the faint white glow that appeared.

With today's update we want too improve how material responds on armour and other reflective surfaces so metals read more naturally, reduce reflective edging on characters, equipment and environments for a cleaner overall look & refining shadow behaviour so shadows appear more cohesive, accurate and consistent across the scene.

The eagle eyed among you may have noticed that these changes where in effect during the Player Avatar beta and today they go live!

As with any update, we will be closely monitoring but please do let us know if you see any strange visual issues cropping up today.

Boss Rates - Flesh-Hatcher & Havenhythe Bosses

There has been some recent chatter to know more about some of the recent boss releases and their rates, below we have gathered up the information so you can find out if you have been lucky or unlucky!

Flesh-hatcher Mhekarnahz

  • 1/64 to roll a reward and then it is a 50%/50% chance to either receive a Dragon Harpoon or Stalker's Charm
  • 1/800 to roll the pet with a threshold of 200

Ivar, King of Bones

  • 1/32 to roll a reward and then it is a 50%/50% chance to either receive a Bonecrusher Maul or Magic Skull Mask
  • 1/1250 to roll the pet with a threshold of 250

Silverquill, the Dreadhog

  • Each kill you have a 50% chance to receive Sanguine Spines otherwise you will get Silver Spines
  • 1/1000 to roll the pet with a threshold of 200

These boss pets all have a threshold that increases the likelihood to obtain as you reach them. Upon reaching the threshold your chance to obtain the pet increases, for example after defeating Silverquill 200 times your threshold would increase from 1/1000 to 2/1000 (or 1/500) making it more likely you obtain the pet you seek!
