RuneScape Aura Overhaul & April Marketplace Drop (13th April 2026)

The Aura system gets its long-overdue rework, stripping out time-gated farming and tenure-based imbalances as part of RuneScape's ongoing Road to Restoration.

Auras have been a sore spot for RuneScape players for years, and the Aura Overhaul that dropped on April 13th is the most substantial fix the system has seen in a long time. The overhaul removes the need to activate auras within specific time windows, eliminates the tier imbalances that rewarded players purely for membership tenure, and cuts out the years-long accumulation grind that sat awkwardly on top of the game's normal systems. This is exactly the kind of systemic cleanup that RuneScape needs, and I'm glad the team didn't just patch around the edges.

This update is part of the Road to Restoration, Jagex's secondary roadmap targeting fundamental design problems. Previous work tackled DailyScape and early-game balance; upcoming targets include Grand Exchange improvements and a Player Avatar relaunch. Performance work from last week, addressing microstutters and frame drops, also reportedly landed well with players.

On the cosmetic side, the April Marketplace brings the Skullhide Stalker Bundle, priced at 990 Runecoins for members, alongside a large stock rotation adding items like the Zaros Pack and Shadow Magus Outfit. Several items including the Gilded Rune Armour Bundle and all Warped overrides have been removed from sale. The complete notes are below.

Aura Overhaul
No more Aura Farming

It's another milestone week in the Road to Restoration for RuneScape: today we overhaul the Aura's system!

If you're unfamiliar with the Road to Restoration: it's a secondary roadmap that underlies our 2026 content roadmap. The Road to Restoration is a long-term project aimed at addressing fundamental or systematic problems that have led RuneScape away from its core principles.

As part of this roadmap, we already overhauled much of the DailyScape design and early game balancing, and we are continuing to make important changes that you can look forward to, including improvements to the Grand Exchange and a relaunch of the Player Avatar.

The Aura system dates back to a previous era of RuneScape and is no longer compatible with our integrity based direction... however, we have made sure to retain as many of the beneficial features of this system!

We previously shared a couple blogs on our initial thoughts around Auras and later also around our more firmer design direction. Thanks to your input, we're confident that we've found ways to address your concerns while still being able to tackle the worst aura offenders!

For more insight into the why of the Aura Overhaul, do check out the two blogs linked above, but here are our overarching goals for the Road to Restoration that have guided us with this update:

  1. A game that's easy to understand, but still full of meaningful choice and depth.
  2. Play because it's fun, and not because you feel like you have to.
  3. A meaningful journey, no matter when you start.

The benefits of today's changes include:

  • Removing the need to play certain content in certain windows of time during which their aura could be active
  • Removing the player-to-player imbalance created by multiple aura tiers that were previously time-gated by membership tenure.
  • Removing the need to accumulate aura powers over many years, using a system that layered on-top of RuneScape's normal gameplay features and had very little connection to them.

Dive in here to take a look at what's changing!
