Grinding Gear Games has confirmed that the ExileCon Path of Exile 2 Qualifiers begin next week, marking the start of the competitive season ahead of the live championship final in New Zealand. Four qualifier events will run on consecutive Wednesdays, August 6, 13, 20, and 27, each starting at 2PM PDT, with ZiggyD and Raiz hosting throughout.

The qualifier format is specific and demanding. Each event tasks players with reaching Act Four and defeating Tavakai within a Solo Self-Found Runes of Aldur race featuring a fixed layout. Whilst the qualifier events themselves are not Hardcore, death carries a severe penalty: your character becomes immobilised for two and a half minutes after each death before you can resume. This creates a high-stakes environment where both speed and survival matter equally. The first player to kill Tavakai in any qualifier event wins the entire prize package.

Crucially, these events are open to both PC and console players during the qualifier rounds, but the live finale at ExileCon will be played exclusively on PC. Competitors who advance can bring their.build files and preferred gaming peripherals to Auckland for the championship match, allowing them to maintain their exact configuration and playstyle. This detail matters because console players competing in qualifiers must know they will need to transition to PC for the finale if they win.

The prize structure for each qualifier winner includes flights and accommodation to Auckland for the ExileCon weekend, an Ultra VIP ExileCon ticket, a spot in the live finale itself, and a Demigod's Virtue Unique Helmet. These are not cosmetic rewards. The travel and accommodation alone represent significant value, and the Ultra VIP ticket grants access beyond standard attendance. The prize pool reinforces that Grinding Gear Games is treating this as a legitimate competitive event, not a side attraction.

Players wishing to participate must link their Path of Exile account to Twitch before August 6. Once an event begins, joining is straightforward: select the race from the Character Select screen, create a character, and your character will remain stationary until the race officially starts. This prevents early movement exploits and ensures all competitors begin simultaneously.

The qualifier schedule arrives with one week's notice, which gives players limited time to prepare. For those planning to compete, the fixed layout aspect means practice routes and route optimisation become critical. You cannot rely on randomised map generation to create shortcuts. The two-and-a-half-minute immobilisation penalty is severe enough that a single death in the early acts could cost you the race entirely, making the qualifier events substantially more punishing than standard Path of Exile 2 racing.
