Bonewrights have a new tool to work with. Today's patch introduces Clue Divination, a system that lets you bind a special skull to your Detective investigations bounty board once you hit milestone 1 Bonewright. Scobu the Vague hands over the skull in the Cave of the Future, and from there the Bonety Board gives you a chance to reveal clues before you complete bounties. Each subsequent milestone lets you etch a goat horn onto it to improve those odds.

You only get one divination attempt per bounty, and the XP and knowledge reward comes when you finish the bounty, not when the clue appears. It's a deliberate pacing choice that stops the system from trivialising investigation work.

Beyond Bonewrights, the studio has also laid out its philosophy for combat going forward. Rather than drop a sprawling overhaul with special attacks and skill trees all at once, they're committing to incremental updates. Combat improvements Update 1 arrives today with friction reductions, with deeper changes rolling out in subsequent patches. The full breakdown, including the new shovel keybind, is below.

Full Patch Notes

Once you are a milestone1 Bonewright, Scobu the Vague in the Cave of the Future will entrust you with a special skull. This skull can be bound to the Detective investigations bounty board, turning it into a Bonety Board. When presented with an investigation bounty, the Bonety Board has a chance to reveal one clue from that bounty. In each subsequent milestone you can etch a goat horn and bind it to the Bonety Board to increase the chance of revealing a clue.

You can only attempt to divine each bounty once. If a clue is revealed, the XP and knowledge for that clue will be awarded when you complete the bounty, not when the clue is revealed.

You can find more information on clue divination in the Bonewright profession interface.

Combat improvements

Improving combat is something we have been wanting to tackle for a long time. We are not just talking about adding special attacks and skill trees on top of the existing combat system, but taking a fresh look at how the existing system works and what we can do to improve it.

We have looked through the feedback we have received, and we have also considered the kind of content we want to create in the future. Based on this we have developed a plan of incremental improvements we want to make to the base combat system.

Rather than releasing all these improvements in one big 'impossible to get right' update, we are going to release them in a series of smaller updates. This way we can get feedback as we go. Each individual update only changes combat slightly, but collectively they will change combat significantly. In line with this plan, we have added 'Combat improvements - Update 1' to the launch schedule. This first update will include a number of improvements to make combat less frustrating, but other improvements such as skill trees and special attacks will be incrementally added in later updates.
