Ubisoft created a stir in 2021 with its announcement of The Division Heartland, a free-to-play iteration of the beloved franchise scheduled for release on PC and consoles. However, fans were recently disheartened to learn that Ubisoft has decided to halt the development of The Division Heartland.

This decision was disclosed in Ubisoft's latest quarterly financial report, where the company revealed a strategic shift of resources towards the upcoming XDefiant, a free-to-play multiplayer shooter, and the enduringly popular Rainbow Six Siege.

In an effort to optimize operations and align with market changes, significant internal reorganizations have taken place within Ubisoft's Global Publishing teams, with a specific focus on deepening engagement in the APAC region. Furthermore, Ubisoft has chosen to discontinue the progress on The Division Heartland to pursue more promising endeavors with XDefiant and Rainbow Six.

Despite the unfortunate fate of The Division Heartland, fans can take solace in the continuous support for The Division 2. Additionally, Ubisoft has officially confirmed the ongoing development of The Division 3, with anticipated updates to be announced at June's Ubisoft Forward event.

For players in search of a new free-to-play gaming experience, XDefiant is primed for its release on May 21 on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. Be sure to review the preload and launch schedules, alongside the exciting content information, to brace yourself for the adrenaline-fueled gameplay.
