The Number of Simultaneous Steam Players for Suicide Squad Has Begun to Fall Below Gotham Knights

The Steam version of Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League has witnessed a significant decline in concurrent players since its launch, sinking to numbers even lower than those of Gotham Knights. Despite the multiple postponements, Warner Bros Games launched the open-world co-op villain-themed video game, helmed by Rocksteady, on February 2. However, the popularity of the PC version has diminished since its release.

The game saw a peak concurrent player count of 13,459 a day post-release, which has seen a substantial fall. As per SteamDB, the count of concurrent players has remained below 1,000 in the past week. This decrease places the game's concurrent player count in close proximity to Gotham Knights, another open-world co-op game by Warner Bros Games, earlier developed by WB Games Montreal and released in October 2022.

Interestingly, Gotham Knights has attracted a slightly higher player base over the past week, with an average of 881 concurrent players daily against the 754 of Suicide Squad. Obviously, Warner Bros Games would be dissatisfied observing its just-a-month-old game performing at par with a game that was released over two years back. The company's dissatisfaction with the initial response to the game was evident recently.

In last week's fourth-quarter earnings call of Warner Bros Discovery, CFO Gunnar Wiedenfels provided a brief review of the game's initial run, stating that it didn't meet the firm's expectations. She stated, "Suicide Squad, our key video game release this year, has not lived up to our expectations since its early quarter release, subjecting our games business to a challenging year-over-year comparison in Q1."

Suicide Chart

Post its release, Suicide Squad has shown a decay in its daily peak concurrent player count, almost similar to Gotham Knights, even falling below it in the last week, according to SteamDB data. Once hailed as a highly-awaited game in the industry, the latest title from the creators of the praised Batman Arkham series, Suicide Squad has encountered a dampening in enthusiasm amidst a lengthy development process that featured some lackluster pre-release displays and negative response to its live service components.

The game's reviews were divided, with Metacritic scoring it at 60 for consoles and 63 for PC. The launch experienced setbacks owing to server issues and a self-completion glitch.
