For those eagerly awaiting the chance to play Helldivers 2 on Steam, the recent news regarding the game being pulled from certain countries might have come as a shock. But before you point fingers at Valve, it's important to note that the decision lies with the game's publisher, Sony.
Sony's announcement requiring PC players to link their PlayStation Network account to continue playing or purchasing Helldivers 2 was met with significant backlash from the gaming community. It wasn't long before Sony decided to backtrack on this requirement, but not without some consequences.
According to the disclosed information, the game's unavailability in certain regions is a direct result of the publisher's decision. Sony, as the publisher of Helldivers 2, holds the key to its distribution on Steam, leaving Valve out of the blame game.
Further complications arose when three additional countries, Lithuania, Latvia, and Estonia, were inadvertently excluded from the list of regions where Helldivers 2 could be purchased. Arrowhead Game Studios' Johan Pilestedt clarified that this was due to an "administrative error correction" and expressed the studio's desire to make the game available globally.
Sony's stance on restricting sales in over 150 countries raises questions about their motives, potentially alienating a vast player base by enforcing PSN integration in PC releases.
