Sega has recently made waves in the gaming community by confirming that the eagerly anticipated reboot of Crazy Taxi is being developed as a triple-A title. This revelation comes from an insightful piece in the Japan Times, which sheds light on the operations at Sega's Sapporo Studio. Established in December 2021, this studio plays a pivotal role in the development of various Sega projects.

Takaya Segawa, the president of Sapporo Studio and a senior executive officer at Sega, shared insights into the studio's contributions to Sega's portfolio. "Our team has been instrumental in the development of titles like Phantasy Star Online 2: New Genesis and Hatsune Miku: Colorful Stage, collaborating closely with our counterparts in Tokyo and abroad," Segawa stated. He then highlighted the studio's involvement in the Crazy Taxi reboot, affirming, "We are also engaged in the creation of triple-A titles, including Crazy Taxi. While we haven't yet developed a title independently, we're planning to do so in the future."

The announcement of the Crazy Taxi reboot was part of a larger reveal at The Game Awards in December, where Sega disclosed its plans to develop new entries for several beloved series, including Jet Set Radio, Streets of Rage, Golden Axe, Shinobi, and, of course, Crazy Taxi. However, the scale of investment and the budget for these projects were not initially clarified.

Crazy Taxi first made its mark as an arcade game in 1999 but gained widespread popularity with its release on the Dreamcast in 2000, becoming the console's third best-selling game in the US. Despite the series enjoying several sequels and spin-offs, it has been 22 years since the release of the last new main entry, Crazy Taxi 3: High Roller, which was an Xbox exclusive.
