The Pokemon Company has announced plans to mass reprint a rare Pikachu Pokemon card, which last year was at the center of scalper-induced chaos at the Van Gogh museum in The Netherlands. This decision comes as a response to the unprecedented demand and subsequent disorder that the card's limited release provoked among fans and collectors alike.

The Pikachu card in question, known for its unique design and scarcity, became a hot commodity almost overnight, leading to scenes of unrest as enthusiasts vied to get their hands on what has been dubbed a collector's dream. The situation escalated to the point where public safety concerns were raised, prompting a reevaluation of how such limited-edition releases are handled.

The Pokemon Company's decision to rerelease the card on a much larger scale is seen as a move to democratize access to this coveted item, ensuring that fans and collectors can obtain it without resorting to extreme measures. This approach not only addresses the immediate issue of supply and demand but also reflects a broader commitment to fostering a positive and inclusive community around Pokemon collecting.

According to Pokebeach, the below stores in The Netherlands will receive copies of the card, which will be given to shoppers who spend more than €29.99 on TCG products:

  • Bruna
  • Game Mania
  • Intertoys
  • Media Markt
  • Primera
  • Top1Toys
  • Smyths Toys Superstores
