David Vonderhaar, an esteemed designer known for his work on Call of Duty: Black Ops, has partnered with NetEase to create a new AAA game development studio called BulletFarm, announced in this blog post. Positioned as a primarily remote studio with headquarters in Los Angeles, California, Vonderhaar's move comes after his departure from Treyarch, where he was instrumental in the creation of eight installments of the Call of Duty series since 2003. Notably, Vonderhaar's expertise lay in directing the multiplayer aspects in most of Treyarch's Call of Duty releases.

Joining forces with Vonderhaar for BulletFarm is Chris Cowell, an experienced game designer who has also worked on various Call of Duty games, such as Modern Warfare (2019), Warzone, and Black Ops – Cold War. He will serve as the creative director in the new endeavor.

NetEase revealed that BulletFarm is currently working on an exciting new AAA game. The innovative project will utilize Unreal Engine 5, and the focus will be on an original universe, with cooperative gameplay playing a significant role. The innovative game is expected to offer a unique spin on first-person gameplay while maintaining a relatable and immersive gaming experience.

Vonderhaar expressed his excitement by stating that the creation of this new studio provided him with an opportunity to step out of his comfort zone and delve into the creation of something entirely unique. He emphasized the opportunity to focus on intricate characters, precise mechanics, engaging storytelling, and dynamic action sequences. The significant support from NetEase will give the BulletFarm team the freedom to bring their vision and ideas to fruition.

Simon Zhu, who is the president of global investments and partnerships at NetEase Games, reinforced their commitment to provide BulletFarm the necessary resources and assistance to successfully build this fresh first-person experience. Zhu further emphasized how Vonderhaar's guidance and the early batch of talented game developers at the studio promise to deliver something that will appeal to both existing fans and a new audience.
