Players of Cities: Skylines 2 have expressed growing discontent with the current state of the game, leading to a significant decline in Steam reviews. The recent release of the Beach Properties DLC has only exacerbated the situation, with many players feeling that the content provided does not warrant its price tag.

While the overall reviews of the base game remain "mixed", recent feedback has shifted towards the "mostly negative" category. Longtime fans of the series have criticized the city simulation features for not functioning as intended, resulting in a frustrating gameplay experience.

One Steam review captures the sentiment, stating, "I desperately wanted to love this game. loved the first and had a lot of hype for this one. It just isn't a good game at the minute [...] do not buy, not even on sale. Just wait until they fix it."

Another player voiced stronger criticism, declaring, "This game is complete trash. And now they are charging for paid DLC before fixing the fundamental problems of the game? Enough said."

The perception that paid DLC is being used to address core game issues is a common concern among players, leading to a wave of negative reviews for the Beach Properties DLC. Despite being recently launched, the DLC has already garnered 450 negative ratings compared to just 27 positive scores.

It is worth noting that the original Cities: Skylines, released in 2015, continues to maintain very positive reviews on Steam.

Cities: Skylines 2, launched in October, faced criticism from the outset for omitting features present in the first game. While critics have given it average reviews, highlighting its building mechanics and improved visuals, players are still waiting for the inclusion of missing content. In a review on our site, Senior Specialist Writer Harry Alston awarded the game a four out of five, commending its building mechanics and improved visuals while acknowledging performance issues and missing features.

On a positive note, official mod support for Cities: Skylines 2 has been introduced, offering players the ability to enhance their gameplay with user-created content. While the current mod selection is limited, fans have been actively creating mods for the game since its launch, providing additional variety for players.
