Keen eyes in the gaming community caught developer Playstack Games' recent twitter announcement celebrating a major sales milestone for its latest sensation, Balatro. Known for its cleverly crafted poker-inspired settings in a new roguelike deck builder environment, Balatro has made impressive strides, selling 500,000 copies across all platforms within the first 10 days of launch.

Balatro's charm lies in its innovation. The game offers players a strange yet enticing blend of cards, with over 150 unpredictable Jokers to Tarot card variants. This unique take on the traditional poker game has not only been widely accepted by gamers, but it has also breathed new life into the gaming genre. Balatro has been warmly welcomed in the gaming community, garnering overwhelmingly positive reviews on Steam.

Balatro's early success is especially impressive when considering the controversy surrounding its poker-inspired gameplay mechanics. Regardless, Balatro stands as a testament to the potential for indie games to achieve stupendous success.

Recently, Balatro faced a minor setback when the Pan European Game Information (PEGI) ratings board reclassified it as suitable for 18+ audiences which led to its temporary removal from some digital storefronts. The studio responded swiftly, stating that the decision was due to its gambling imagery and stressing that the game does not promote or encourage real-world gambling. Playstack Games is clearly determined to resolve this issue, keeping its community updated with efforts to bring Balatro back to the stores.

It is unclear just how much this temporary setback influenced Balatro's sales, but even with certain markets paused, Balatro continues its upward trajectory in available stores.
