Four Xenoblade games on one platform in the span of about a year. That's what today's Nintendo Direct just promised Switch 2 owners, and as someone who sank hundreds of hours across the Chronicles trilogy, I'm struggling to think of a better single-franchise showing from any Direct in recent memory.

Nintendo executive Yoshiaki Koizumi introduced Xenoblade Genesis during today's broadcast, confirming the new entry is coming to Switch 2 in 2027. The reveal trailer introduces a world built around "Anima," a source of elemental power wielded by warriors called Vesselai. We see a young woman receive a blade imbued with an Anima crystone, horse-like creatures that look ripped straight from a Studio Ghibli film, and dragon mounts. No specific release date was given beyond the 2027 window.

But Genesis wasn't the only Xenoblade news. All three Xenoblade Chronicles games are getting Switch 2 editions with enhanced resolution, framerate, and unspecified "new features." The rollout schedule is staggered: Xenoblade Chronicles is available digitally today, with a physical release on July 30. Xenoblade Chronicles 2 arrives digitally on July 30 and physically on October 1. Xenoblade Chronicles 3 gets both its digital and physical upgrade on December 3. Nintendo didn't detail what those new features actually are, which is frustrating given how much goodwill a few specifics would buy.

Still, the sheer volume here is hard to argue with. If you never played the trilogy on Switch or Wii, the Switch 2 is about to become the definitive way to experience one of Nintendo's best RPG franchises, and Genesis gives longtime fans something entirely new to look forward to. I just hope Nintendo doesn't leave the "new features" vague all the way until launch.
