Ex-Capcom Team's Monster-Eating RPG Hits PS5 This Fall
GPTRACK50, a studio led by the producer behind Resident Evil and Devil May Cry, just revealed a fall 2026 release window for Stupid Never Dies, an action RPG where you eat monsters to steal their powers.

"Davy is not only considered the weakest among zombies, the lowest-ranked creatures in the monster world, but is also known as a complete coward." That's how GPTRACK50 describes the lead of its upcoming action RPG Stupid Never Dies, and it's exactly the kind of pitch that makes me lean forward rather than scroll past. A cowardly zombie at the bottom of monster society, trying to revive a frozen girl he's fallen for, by literally eating his way up the food chain? I'm paying attention.
The studio announced today that Stupid Never Dies will launch this fall on PS5 and PC via Steam. No exact date yet, but the window has narrowed from a vague 2026 into something more concrete, and a new trailer accompanied the news to show off combat styles, boss encounters, and the game's eccentric cast of supporting characters.
What sells this for me is the pedigree behind it. GPTRACK50 is led by Hiroyuki Kobayashi, a former Capcom producer whose credits span Resident Evil, Devil May Cry, and Dragon's Dogma. Those are three franchises that, between them, basically defined action combat across two console generations. Kobayashi clearly isn't interested in making a safe debut for his new studio. Stupid Never Dies looks like someone threw Devil May Cry's combat speed into a blender with Monster Hunter's creature obsession and a punk rock album cover.
Eat Everything, Become Everything
The core mechanic here is Style Eat. Davy can devour monsters and absorb their abilities, transforming into one of 10 different creature forms on top of his default zombie moveset. Werewolf, Harpy, Golem, Vampire, Will-o'-the-Wisp, Cyclops, Snow Fairy, Merfolk, Lich, and Demon are all on the table. Each one changes how combat plays out; some focus on speed, others on ranged attacks, heavy hits, freezing enemies, commanding skeletons, or manipulating positioning. GPTRACK50 has said each style comes with multiple possible skills, so you're not just swapping between preset loadouts. There's actual room to build something that fits how you want to play.
Layered on top of that is Body Hack, a system that lets Davy modify his undead body with weapons and equipment. The trailer shows sword arms, missile launchers, and other upgrades that carry over even when you're transformed into another creature. If the execution matches the ambition, this could be one of the most mechanically dense action RPGs in years. That's a big "if," but the team's background gives me more confidence than I'd normally have for a debut title from a new studio.
The supporting cast leans hard into absurdist humour. There's Dr. Frank, a self-proclaimed "supreme intellect of humanity" who runs a database tracking your kills and collected items. Bessie, a biker zombie who runs a burger joint where you unlock zombie skills. Acelino, a Chihuahua man (explicitly not a werewolf) who operates a tattoo shop for managing your gear upgrades. And Phoenix Zaza Hotfeathers, whose cosmic duty is apparently to discharge the waste generated by mother earth Gaia's metabolism. His official character description notes that "his vibe is someone who doesn't give a shit."
GPTRACK50 has said the game is currently playable from start to finish and is in the polishing stage, with an estimated playtime of around 30 hours. That's encouraging. A studio saying "we're polishing" months before launch is a very different signal than one saying "we're still building core systems." Stupid Never Dies will support English voice-overs alongside subtitles in 14 languages when it arrives on PS5 and PC this fall.
