Spider-Man 2's First Update in a Year Drops a Free Movie Sui
Marvel's Spider-Man 2 is getting its first update in over a year, adding Peter Parker's Fresh Start suit from the upcoming Brand New Day movie at no cost on PS5 and PC.

Most people, myself included, assumed Marvel's Spider-Man 2 was done. Insomniac confirmed there would be no story DLC, the studio pivoted to Marvel's Wolverine, and the last patch of any kind was a PC hotfix back in May 2025. So when Insomniac announced on X that a free suit update is coming on July 28, it caught me off guard. Not because a movie tie-in costume is groundbreaking content, but because it means someone at Insomniac is still pushing builds for a game the studio seemingly walked away from.
The suit is called the "Fresh Start" and it's inspired by Tom Holland's look in Spider-Man: Brand New Day, which hits theatres on July 31. According to Insomniac's post, it'll be available on both PS5 and PC at no additional cost. If you've seen the end of No Way Home, you'll recognise the general vibe: a stripped-back, comic-accurate blue-and-red design with visible mechanical web-shooters. No nanotech, no Iron Spider flair. Holland reportedly took fan feedback during the film's development to refine the suit's design, and that revised version is what's landing in the game.
One Suit, No Strings
I want to give Insomniac credit here, because this is exactly how movie tie-in content should work. Free update, no battle pass, no premium currency unlock, no timed exclusivity window. You boot up the game, download the patch, and the suit is yours. In a year where plenty of publishers would have bundled this into a £7.99 "Brand New Day Pack" with a couple of emotes and a loading screen, Insomniac just dropped it in for nothing. It's a small thing, but small things add up when the industry keeps testing how much it can charge for cosmetics.
Spider-Man 2 already has dozens of suits spanning the Sam Raimi trilogy, Andrew Garfield's Amazing Spider-Man films, and the full MCU wardrobe. The Fresh Start suit slots neatly into that collection. It won't change how the game plays, and nobody is reinstalling a 100GB game just for one costume. But for the people who never deleted it, or who picked it up on PC and are still working through it, it's a nice reason to swing around Manhattan for an evening.
As for what comes next, don't hold your breath. Insomniac has already confirmed Spider-Man won't appear in Marvel's Wolverine when it launches on September 15, and there's been no official reveal of a Spider-Man 3. IGN noted that the studio is expected to be working on another Spider-Man game, possibly targeting PS6, but nothing has been announced. There's speculation that Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse releasing next summer could prompt another suit drop, but that's just guesswork at this point.
The Fresh Start suit arrives on July 28 for Marvel's Spider-Man 2 on PS5 and PC via Steam and Epic Games Store.
