All Four Ninja Turtles Drop Into Sonic Racing CrossWorlds

"Cowabunga! Leonardo, Raphael, Michelangelo, and Donatello burst onto the track in Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds! Hop into the Pizzafire Van and race through the streets of New York City!"

That's SEGA's official pitch for the game's newest DLC, and for once the marketing copy pretty much covers it. The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Pack launched today across PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, Switch, Switch 2 and PC, adding all four turtles as playable racers in their Mutant Mayhem designs. No drip-feeding one turtle per month, no splitting the brothers across two packs. You get the full squad for $5.99 standalone or as part of the $29.99 Season Pass.

I appreciate that Sega didn't try to stretch this into multiple releases. Four characters, one vehicle, one new track, six emotes per turtle, and a batch of TMNT-inspired music tracks. It's a clean, complete package, and the Mutant Mayhem art style should look right at home in a game that already pulls from half a dozen different visual identities.

The New York City course rounds out the pack, and there's a smart detail buried in TheXboxHub's coverage: players who don't own the DLC can still race on the new track when they encounter it online. That kind of approach keeps the multiplayer pool from fracturing, something too many racing games get wrong with paid map packs.

Sega's Crossover Machine

The TMNT pack is the fifth paid DLC in the Season Pass, following Minecraft, SpongeBob SquarePants, Pac-Man and Mega Man. One more remains: an Avatar Legends pack arriving in October with Aang and Katara. With this release, the total roster now sits at 55 playable characters.

On top of the paid stuff, Sega has been dropping free characters from its own catalogue on a monthly basis. The list so far includes Hatsune Miku, Joker from Persona, Ichiban Kasuga and Goro Majima from Like a Dragon, NiGHTS, AiAi, Tangle and Whisper from the IDW Sonic comics, Red from Angry Birds, Arle from Puyo Puyo, and most recently Classic Sonic. Axel from Crazy Taxi arrives in August, with Amigo from Samba de Amigo following in September.

Then there's Year 2. Sega confirmed during Summer Game Fest that a second season pass will feature six more crossover packs, with the first two based on Godzilla and Evangelion. The sheer range of IPs this game is pulling from is wild, and Sega keeps layering free characters on top of paid packs, making the value proposition hard to argue with.

A TMNT Festival event kicks off on 30th July, with cosmetic rewards themed around the turtles. Push Square reports a separate window of 31st July to 3rd August for the festival, so exact timing may vary by region.

Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds has quietly built one of the most generous post-launch content pipelines in the racing genre. Fifty-five characters, a steady stream of free additions, and crossover packs priced at six dollars instead of fifteen. With Mario Kart World pivoting toward open-world design, Sega carved out real space for a traditional kart racer, and the DLC strategy has only widened that gap. Godzilla and Evangelion in Year 2 suggest they're not slowing down.
