Rogue Trader Makes All DLC Free on Switch 2 After

After a Switch 2 launch so rough it scored a 4/10, Owlcat Games is giving away all DLC expansions for free and releasing a major stability patch today.

A 4/10 review and the label "borderline disaster" will make any studio sweat. Owlcat Games clearly got the message, because today it's releasing a major patch for Warhammer 40,000: Rogue Trader on Switch 2 and making every piece of DLC free for owners of the port.

The update, first reported by Nintendo Life, went live today at 4pm BST / 8am PDT / 11am EDT. Owlcat says the patch eliminates "nasty bugs," improves visual presentation, and adds performance optimisations aimed at making the game "much more stable." Specific patch notes haven't been detailed yet, so we don't know exactly what's changed under the hood. Vague promises of stability fixes are easy to make; I'll be watching closely to see if the stuttering frame rate, hard crashes, and laggy menus that plagued the January launch are actually gone.

The bigger headline is the DLC. Owlcat is framing it as "an apology for the awful launch," and it covers everything: the Digital Deluxe Edition content, both existing expansions (Void Shadows and Lex Imperialis), and the upcoming third and fourth major DLCs whenever they arrive. All of it, free for Switch 2 owners. I can't remember the last time a studio handed over its entire DLC roadmap at no cost as a mea culpa. It's a generous move, especially from a mid-sized studio that doesn't have the margins of a major publisher.

Rogue Trader originally launched in 2023 on PC and later came to PS5 and Xbox Series X/S. The CRPG earned strong reviews on those platforms, making the Switch 2 port's poor state all the more frustrating for players who picked it up there. A physical cartridge release from Silver Lining Interactive, in collaboration with Owlcat and Games Workshop, is also scheduled for 15th October, 2026, which gives the studio a clear deadline to get this version into respectable shape.

Owlcat has two more projects in the pipeline: a new Warhammer 40K CRPG called Dark Heresy and an action RPG titled The Expanse: Osiris Reborn. Whether today's patch actually delivers on its promises will say a lot about how much trust those announcements deserve.
