7 Million in 2 Months: Requiem Won't Stop Breaking Records
Capcom's latest survival horror hit cleared 7 million copies in under two months, and it's showing no signs of slowing down.
Seven million copies. Two months. No multiplayer, no live-service hooks, no battle pass. Just a single-player survival horror game doing numbers that most AAA studios would kill for, and doing it faster than anything else in Resident Evil's 30-year history.
Director Koshi Nakanishi shared the milestone on Instagram, posting photos of two celebratory cakes for the occasion: one themed around newcomer Grace Ashcroft, the other around Leon S. Kennedy. Capcom officially announced the 6 million mark back in March, meaning Requiem added another million in roughly a month., Resident Evil Village has accumulated around 13.5 million sales since 2021, and RE7 sits at about 16.4 million since 2017. Requiem is on pace to catch both of them in a fraction of the time.
What makes this so satisfying to watch is that Requiem earned it the old-fashioned way. No free-to-play funnel, no crossover event pulling in players from another game. It hit over 300,000 concurrent players on Steam within hours of launch, blew past 5 million sales in its first week, and just kept climbing. As someone who grew up on this franchise and has watched Capcom fumble it more than once, seeing a purely single-player RE game perform like this feels like vindication for everyone who argued the series didn't need to chase trends to sell.
Nakanishi has already confirmed a story expansion is in the works, which should keep the momentum going. The game is available now on PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch 2. At this rate, 10 million before the end of the year doesn't feel like a stretch at all.
