One Changed Line Has Persona 4 Fans Mourning Yosuke Romance
Atlus tweaked one of Yosuke's flirtatious lines in Persona 4 Revival's deep dive broadcast, and fans hoping for a restored romance route are reading the writing on the wall.

"You do seem to be great with your hands." That awkward, arguably flirtatious Yosuke line from Persona 4 Golden is gone. In the 22-minute deep dive broadcast for Persona 4 Revival, Atlus showed the line rewritten to a much blander compliment: "Woah, you can cook? Actually, you do strike me as someone who'd be good at that." For a vocal portion of the fanbase that's spent years hoping the remake would restore a famously cut same-sex romance with Yosuke, this feels like a door quietly closing.
The Yosuke romance has been one of the longest-running "what ifs" in the Persona community. Dataminers found unused voice lines and dialogue years ago suggesting the character was originally written as a romance option for the male protagonist, with a confession scene that was cut before release. Given that games like Fire Emblem and Hades have since made same-sex romance options standard, many fans expected Revival to be the moment Atlus finally restored it. Stripping out one of the few lines that could be read as flirtatious doesn't exactly inspire confidence. "We definitely aren't getting that romance," one fan wrote, while another countered that the only way to balance the change would be adding the Yosuke romance outright.
Others have pointed out that the revised line is actually closer to the original Japanese script, and that the old English localization took liberties. I think both things can be true: the new translation can be more accurate while also being a signal that Atlus isn't interested in leaning into the romantic subtext Western fans latched onto. Persona 4 Revival launches February 18, 2027 on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, PC via Steam and Microsoft Store, and will be available on Game Pass.
