Outsourcing Studio Blows Persona 6 Wide Open
Concept art and character names for Persona 6 have surfaced online, reportedly originating from an outsourcing studio working on the game's animation.
Ten years of secrecy around Persona 6, and it all apparently unravelled because someone at a third-party animation studio didn't lock down their files. Concept art and a full list of character names have leaked online, reportedly originating from an outsourcing partner working on the game. The images first appeared on Chinese social media platform Xiaohongshu (RedNote) before spreading to ResetEra, where known Atlus leaker lolilolailo weighed in to confirm that the individual character sheets are legitimate, even as a group shot circulating alongside them is clearly AI-generated.
The leaked art shows a blonde male protagonist, a first for the series, and a dark-haired female character whose name appears in the file metadata as Kusakabe Tōko. A list of PNG filenames, structured with a "p6e_cha" prefix and Japanese suffixes, reveals names for what looks like the full party roster, including a mascot companion labelled Nilfa. According to lolilolailo, the female character is not an alternate protagonist option, which has already disappointed fans hoping for a dual-lead structure. The leaked filenames also reference seasonal outfit variants and expression sheets, the kind of production assets you'd send to an external animation team.
That's what makes this leak sting for Atlus. Sega didn't even acknowledge Persona 6 as an upcoming project in its latest earnings report, and the game has been kept under wraps since job listings hinted at its existence back in 2021. All of that careful secrecy, undone by a contractor. I feel for the developers who wanted to reveal this on their own terms, but this is also a reminder that the more studios you loop in, the harder a secret becomes to keep. A separate claim from the same source points to a September 2027 release window, though that detail hasn't been corroborated. With Persona 4 Revival likely taking the spotlight at upcoming summer showcases, a formal Persona 6 reveal probably isn't imminent, but the cat is very much out of the bag.
