'Get the F**k Out': Halo Boss Accused of Abusing Devs
Multiple current and former Halo Studios employees have accused studio head Pierre Hintze of verbal abuse, bullying, and severe mismanagement, with one claiming he told them to 'get the f**k out of the studio.'

Pierre Hintze is supposed to be the person steering Halo into its next era. According to multiple current and former employees at his studio, he's the person who made them afraid to show their own work.
Allegations against the Halo Studios head surfaced over the weekend via YouTuber Rebs Gaming, who cited multiple employees describing Hintze as verbally abusive and accused him of "destroying the Halo franchise" through mismanagement. One former employee's account stands out above the rest:
"It's emotional and shocking. And, to this day, I cannot believe Microsoft HR and Microsoft Legal did not give me the time of day. Pierre literally told me to get the f**k out of the studio. It traumatized me."
Jez Corden at Windows Central has since corroborated key claims, reporting that he saw emails sent to Microsoft HR alleging "bullying" by Hintze and that staff feel "antagonised and undermined" when working with him. Corden described Hintze as a "generally controversial figure internally" who creates friction between his team and Xbox's broader leadership.
Rebs Gaming's report paints a picture of a studio run on fear. Hintze was reportedly referred to HR multiple times by multiple employees, but those complaints appear to have gone nowhere. When the engineering team sent a memo about work-life balance, Hintze allegedly responded, "I don't give a f**k." He reportedly berated development teams so frequently that they stopped wanting to present their progress. He allegedly downplayed employees' questions about full-time positions or career advancement.
Campaign Evolved's Shadow
The allegations are tangled up with the troubled development of Halo: Campaign Evolved, the Unreal Engine-powered remake of the original Halo launching later this month. According to Rebs Gaming, Hintze "verbally abused the entire Campaign Evolved team," blaming staff for problems that stemmed from his own failure to plan. "He did no work on a roadmap, did not plan things out correctly, and constantly changed priorities for the development team," the report claims.
Former head of production Michael Fahrny was allegedly demoted because of Campaign Evolved's struggles, then fired while on medical leave. Rebs Gaming described Hintze as "cruel" to Fahrny. Glenn Israel, a former art director at the studio for over 15 years, was let go because his role was "no longer needed," only for another artist to be promoted into that same role a month later. Israel has previously alleged he "witnessed firsthand or was personally subjected to numerous unethical and/or unlawful acts" during his time at the studio.
One of Corden's sources offered a less damning read, suggesting Hintze has a "complete lack" of people skills rather than malicious intent. I'm not sure that distinction matters much to the people on the receiving end. When your studio head is telling employees to get out and ignoring work-life balance concerns, whether it comes from cruelty or incompetence, the damage is the same.
Hintze joined the company when it was still 343 Industries in 2018 and became head of Halo Studios in 2022. His tenure has overlapped with Halo Infinite's post-launch decline, the cancellation of the Tatanka battle royale project, and now the reported cancellation of another multiplayer project called Ekur, which was prototyped by Certain Affinity. Microsoft has not responded to the allegations.
With Xbox undergoing major management changes following last week's cuts, some are calling on new Xbox head Asha Sharma to replace Hintze. Given what's been reported, I struggle to see how Microsoft can leave him in place without at least publicly addressing these claims. Halo: Campaign Evolved launches in the coming weeks, and right now the conversation around it has nothing to do with the game itself.
