Gravity Circuit 2 Revealed, and the Original Is Free Now
A small Finnish studio just announced a sequel to one of the best Mega Man-style indie platformers in years, and you can grab the original for free on Steam right now.

Over 2,000 "overwhelmingly positive" reviews on Steam. A tiny Finnish studio founded in 2021. And now, a sequel announcement paired with the single best marketing move an indie dev can make: giving the first game away for free.
Domesticated Ant Games and publisher Dear Villagers announced Gravity Circuit 2 today, targeting a 2027 release on PS5, Switch, and PC via Steam and Epic Games Store. To mark the reveal, the original Gravity Circuit is completely free to claim on Steam until June 14 at 1 p.m. EDT. Not a free weekend. Free to keep, permanently.
I love this approach, and I wish more indie studios had the confidence to pull it. The contrast with how bigger publishers handle sequels is stark. AAA studios announce a follow-up and maybe discount the predecessor by 30%. Domesticated Ant Games, a team small enough that they credit freelancers and contractors by name, just handed their entire first game to anyone with a Steam account. It's a bet that the game is good enough to sell the sequel on its own merits. Given that review score, they're probably right.
What's New in the Sequel
If you missed the original, Gravity Circuit plays like a love letter to Capcom's Mega Man Zero series: fast, punchy 2D platforming with a futuristic robot setting and stage-select structure. The sequel keeps that DNA but adds Cable as a second playable character alongside returning protagonist Kai. Where Kai fights up close with punches and a hookshot grapple, Cable takes a ranged approach, chaining jumps to stay airborne and converting defeated enemies into scrap ammunition. Both characters share the same campaign, so every stage plays differently depending on who you pick.
The loadout system has been expanded significantly. Circuit Shards earned from bosses grant new abilities, 30 Booster Chips let you tweak your stats, and you can slot up to four Burst Techniques as finishers. There's also a new hub area with NPCs, vendors, training rooms, and a jukebox. More than a dozen stages are promised, including eight dedicated boss encounters, each with unique mechanics. Dominic Ninmark returns to score the soundtrack.
Two playable characters with different playstyles is exactly the kind of scope increase that makes sense for a small studio's second game. It doubles replayability without requiring the team to build entirely separate campaigns. Indie platformers live and die on how their movement feels, and if Cable's ranged kit is as tight as Kai's close-quarters combat was in the original, this could be a real standout in 2027's lineup.
The free claim window runs until June 14, so there's no rush, but there's also no reason to wait. Gravity Circuit is a short, focused platformer that respects your time, and right now it costs nothing. If you grab it and burn through it in a weekend, you'll know exactly whether the sequel deserves a spot on your wishlist.
