Relink's 1.5x Expansion Drops Free Demo on Switch 2 and PS5

Nearly doubling the playtime of one of 2024's best action RPGs is ambitious enough. Letting everyone try it for free before launch? That's how you sell an expansion. Cygames announced today that a demo for Granblue Fantasy: Relink - Endless Ragnarok is available right now on PS5, PS4, Switch 2, and PC via Steam.

The demo includes an early chunk of Relink's main story, a tutorial, and four co-op quests with full cross-play matchmaking across every platform. One of those quests, "Sephira's Sanguine Glimmer," unlocks after clearing the other three and introduces the expansion's headline feature: Summons, massive elemental creatures you can take direct control of mid-battle. They're invincible while active, hit like freight trains, and add a genuine layer of tactical decision-making to Relink's already chaotic combat. Completing the demo's story and quest content also earns rewards redeemable in the full game when it launches on July 9. A PlayStation Plus membership isn't required for online play on PS5 or PS4, though Switch 2 players will need a Nintendo Switch Online subscription.

Since the earlier open beta, Cygames has made several changes to the demo build. The Aquila Ruby Golem boss in the Summon-focused quest has had its HP and ATK reduced, Seofon has been added as a playable character, co-op matchmaking bugs have been fixed, and character artwork on the main menu has been updated.

The scale of Endless Ragnarok itself is what makes this demo feel like more than a routine pre-launch teaser. According to Nintendo Life's hands-on coverage, developers at Cygames estimate the expansion makes the game roughly 1.5 times larger, with HLTB listing the original's main story plus side content at around 32 hours. Six new playable characters join the roster, including Beatrix, Eustace, Gallanza, Maglielle, Fraux, and Fediel, each unlocked through different progression paths. There's a new Chaos difficulty tier, a roguelite-inspired solo endgame mode called the Conflux, and a full additional story arc. I loved the original Relink, and Cygames pivoted from three planned post-launch expansions to something this substantial because the game sold over two million copies says a lot about how seriously they're treating the playerbase.

Existing Relink owners can upgrade to Endless Ragnarok via the Upgrade Kit on Steam, while newcomers can grab the full package. A livestream scheduled for July 8 will detail the accompanying quality-of-life patch, UI overhaul, and balance changes coming to the base game alongside the expansion's release.
