No Meg? Dreamlight Valley's Hercules Update Snubs Her
Disney Dreamlight Valley's upcoming Hercules update brings two characters to the valley, but the most popular one from the film isn't either of them.
Two characters. That's what Disney Dreamlight Valley's next major update is bringing from the Hercules universe, and neither of them is Megara. The A Hero's Journey update, expected to land on June 3, will add Hercules himself and his goat-legged trainer Philoctetes to the valley, alongside a new Realm, a fresh Star Path event, and what looks like a photo challenge system.
The update details have been trickling out through emoji teasers on the official DDV account on X, and while the Hercules theming looks solid, the absence of Meg is impossible to ignore. She's arguably the best character in the 1997 film. Phil is fine, a fun comedic sidekick, but if you asked most Disney fans to rank their excitement for Hercules characters, Meg would be near the top of that list, not sitting on the bench.
So where is she? If you've been following Dreamlight Valley's content strategy, the answer is probably obvious: behind a paywall, eventually. The game has a pattern of splitting casts from the same film across free updates and paid expansions. Hades, the first Hercules character to join the valley, is locked behind The Storybook Vale DLC. Characters from Tangled, Aladdin, and Beauty and the Beast have been divided the same way. Meg fitting into a future paid expansion later this year would be entirely on-brand.
The Familiar Split
I get why Gameloft does this. Spreading characters across free and paid content keeps the update pipeline full and gives DLC buyers recognizable faces to look forward to. But there's something that rubs me the wrong way about consistently holding back the most requested character from a given IP for the premium tier. It turns fan enthusiasm into a monetization lever. Meg isn't some deep-cut side character; she's the female lead.
The rest of the update sounds decent on paper. A new Realm set in the world of Hercules will serve as the recruitment questline for the two new villagers. A Star Path event with Hercules-themed rewards is coming alongside it, and there are hints at expanded decorating options and a possible level cap increase from 40 to 50. The June 3 date isn't officially confirmed by Gameloft, but it lines up with the current Star Path ending on June 2 and the game's consistent Wednesday release cadence.
Players who want Meg will almost certainly get her at some point in 2026, just not for free. Dreamlight Valley has been running this playbook long enough that the pattern is predictable, and I suspect most of the game's community already sees it coming.
