Toriyama's Last Game? Xenoverse 3 Confirmed for 2027

The Age 1000 project is officially Dragon Ball Xenoverse 3, and it carries the last creative contributions of series creator Akira Toriyama.

When Bandai Namco and Dimps teased something called "Project: Age 1000" earlier this year, most Dragon Ball fans had already connected the dots. At Dragon Ball Games Battle Hour 2026 in Los Angeles this weekend, the studios confirmed what everyone suspected: Age 1000 is Dragon Ball Xenoverse 3, and it's coming to PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X in 2027.

The reveal trailer opens with an anime sequence introducing a new character named Brett in a futuristic setting called New City, before transitioning into the cel-shaded art style the series is known for. An older, redesigned Bulma also appears. But the detail that hit hardest during the panel wasn't a character reveal or a gameplay snippet. It was the developers spending significant time highlighting Akira Toriyama's direct creative involvement in designing Xenoverse 3's world, characters, and player avatars.

Toriyama died in March 2024, meaning Xenoverse 3 will almost certainly be the last video game to feature his original artistic contributions. That gives this announcement a weight that goes beyond a standard sequel reveal. Seeing new Toriyama-designed characters show up in a game releasing three years after his death is bittersweet in a way I wasn't expecting from a Xenoverse announcement. These aren't legacy assets being recycled; this is work he did specifically for this project.

The gap between entries is striking on its own. Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2 launched in October 2016, and while it received years of DLC support, a proper sequel never materialized as Bandai Namco shifted focus to Dragon Ball FighterZ and Sparking! Zero. Xenoverse 2 will receive its final DLC, Future Saga Chapter 4, this summer before the torch passes entirely to its successor.

No proper gameplay was shown during the Battle Hour stream, and the game appears to be skipping Switch 2 for now. Dimps is once again developing, with the game confirmed as an online-focused title like its predecessors. Platforms listed are PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X, with a broad 2027 release window and no specific date.
